Does Anyone Carry Long Guns in Thier Vehicles????

The reason I ask is because I was thinking back several years to when David Arroyo went on a shooting spree in Tyler at the Smith Co Courthouse. The police were severly outgunned to say the least. So much so that even after taking multiple direct hits the subject was able to flee the scene iniating a pursuit through the streets of Tyler putting unsuspecting civilians in danger. He was also wearing multiple flack jackets and other body armor and the only way to take him out was with a head shot which is eventually what happened
I was only about 3.5 miles away when it was all taking place and had no idea what was unfolding just up the street.
So that got me thinking....would it be ok to keep a long gun(let's just say an AR for conversation sake since I know alot of people like tricking them out) with ammo in your vehicle in case of this type of rare event and I wonder if anyone does it?
This could be posed to any number of situations where a gunman wants to harm/kill many, many people.
I don't own any long guns and don't plan on starting to carry to be some kind of vigilante. I'm just curious.
Cause let's be honest though, if we could stop that type of situation from escaslating any further we would all like to be able to if at all possible.
I might also mention that the civilian that lost his life was a CHLer who was supposidly an accomplished shooter who put several rounds on target but he too was outgunned and lost his life trying to save others.

If I still lived out in the country I would do it... however, there just seems to be a bigger chance of having your vehicle broken into living in the middle of a city like many of us do. It's definitely something I've considered though.

Yeah, there is deffinitly that aspect but I'm more curious about the liability.
I can only imagine that there would be can of worms after can of worm of liability...but then again, if it were such a dire situation I'm pretty sure that the cops, city, county and even the DA would not pursue any charges as long as you weren't negligent and didn't harm anyone besides your target.
But who knows, I'm still waitin for a LEO to chime in with thier .02

Not on the bike, but I carried a Garand in my cage before I had a CHL and never saw any reason to stop. I may swap the M1 for a lever gun some day if I find a good deal.

The Wikipedia article stated that Mark Allen Wilson had a CHL, but
IIRC, he was actually a CHL instructor. Can anyone confirm this?

Wilson was able to hit Arroyo with 2 rounds of .45 ACP, but since
the BG was wearing body armor and had a MAK-90, Wilson was in an
inferior position. RIP, sir, for trying to stop a madman.

2 things, they dont mention Mark Allen Wilson (Or atleast I didnt hear it), and they said automatic rifle fire. Chilling video though. Good thing court houses are gun free zones.

Amazed that all that video was available, including the takedown.

the incident that makes me consider keeping a long gun handy is the time a few years ago when a citizen witnessed a DPS trooper being shot at a traffic stop. Witness pulled out his deer rifle and shot the BG on the spot.

Anyway, I have Keltec SU16, which is a fold-up .223 that uses AR mags.
Stores in a padded carry case about 2 feet long.
When we go out of town, I pack it....just in case.

Someone else mentioned a lever rifle, which is also a very good choice. A Win 94 is light and compact, and does not carry the social baggage of a black rifle.

Wilson's shootout also happened with a vehicle between the participants. When Wilson fired, Arroyo dropped. Wilson apparently believed he was disabled. However, the body armor stopped the rounds, and Arroyo repositioned and engaged Wilson. If Arroyo had been in Wilson's full view during the entire exchange, Wilson would have had an opportunity to recognize that the threat had not been stopped and the outcome might well have been different.

Memo to the file: If an offender drops from your sight after you have engaged him, the threat can't be considered ended until that is confirmed by renewed visual contact.

I carry a 12ga. pistol grip shotgun loaded with 5 00 buck and 2 slugs under the backseat for really scary times. Attached is a bandoleer with 20-30 extra shells. I've timed myself in retriving it from all postitions in and around the truck. 5 seconds is average, including the pump.

I keep considering a rifle, but the shotgun is so much cheaper so it's a bigger relief if it was stolen.
Shotty = $300 AK = $500 AR = $1000

Although, an SKS with foldable stock would be decent.

Wow, with all this input it's making me seriously consider buying an AR, decking it out and keeping it in my truck....once the parking lot bill is passed of course.
Unless I can come up with some type of James Bond hide-a-way compartment or somethin beforehand. LOL

I always keep a loaded AR15 in the truck positioned between the two front seats for easy access. 30 round magazine in the well plus another full magazine in the glove box. If I'm going into the store I throw a towel over it.

It's mostly there for shooting dogs but it's also nice to have a rifle always available if I ever needed it. You just never know.
