Gun sign at Target

Post by Velocity »

Was returning an item at a Target store today, and saw a sign with similar wording to the below the following near their returns desk. At first glance I thought it was simply another non-30.06 compliant "no guns here" type of sign, but I think I actually smiled as I read it throughly..

"Possession of a firearm on these premises is prohibited, unless the firearm is concealed and the carrier is licensed for the same type of firearm via Section 411 Subchapter H of Texas Code"

Think I'll be shopping at Target more in the future, and wish they actually had this near the entrance rather than hidden near the returns desk!

Yes, It's easy to mistake what the signs say. My target signs say "the unlicensed possession of a firearm is prohibited......." similar to the signs a WallyWorld.

If the Target sells wine, as many do, the "unlicensed possession" sign is required by TABC.

This is the Target at 249/Jones Rd in NW Houston. I'll try and get a picture next time I'm in there.

I believe this location does sell wine, but oddly have not noticed the TABC "unlicensed posession of a weapon" sign in there. The sign I saw was definitely NOT the TABC sign.

I believe they are trying to comply with the TABC rules. If I recall correctly, they have to post something like the unlicensed possession sign, but the actual wording is not specified in the law (unlike 30.06). I've seen something similar in my DFW area Target. Unfortunately, I don't think they are trying to be pro-CHL, just complying with TABC regs. On the other hand, at least they are not openly hostile.
