Getting a Passport
I am wanting to obtain a passport but not sure that I can find my birth certificate due to all my parents things being destroyed by hurricane IKE and I don't want to have to wait for another state to send me photo static copy as I will have to obtain that form fill it out mail it back, etc. My question is this: since I have a CHL can they use this as/in place of a birth certificate? Is it easier to get a passport when you have a CHL? If any one here can help me out with this I would be grateful. Thanks all.

Re: Getting a Passport
Once all the paper work is in, getting a passport only takes about a week these days since the rush has died down. Waiting to get the birth certificate might not make the entire process much longer than it took a few years ago to just get a passport. If that makes sense. Didn't really answer your question but maybe that will make waiting for the birth cert. worht while.
Re: Getting a Passport
Birth certificate must be included with paper work. Having a CHL has no barring on getting a passport.

Re: Getting a Passport
If you were born in Texas it's super fast to get a copy of your birth certificate. I had to do that when we moved back to the state and I was getting my Texas driver's license again. Lady at the county clerk's office asked me which county I was born, typed some stuff into the computer, and printed it off. I had to pay a fee, but it was very painless.
Depending on what state you were born in, some states will expedite the process for more money.

And it's a CERTIFIED copy. They stamp it with an official seal so it's the real deal.MojoTexas wrote:If you were born in Texas it's super fast to get a copy of your birth certificate. Ditto that, took me all of 10 minutes. I went to the Pasadena office, no lines.
Re: Getting a Passport
Foreign citizens can get a CHL. The US State Department needs proof you're a US citizen and a birth certificate in the US proves that.

I hate to admit this but......unfortunitly I was not born in the great state of Texas, but please don't hold it against me,
I think I have converted nicely.
