I am about to change my DL from Texas to Louisiana but want to keep my Texas CHL. How do I do this? and is my Texas CHL still currently good while I wait for a new one?
if not, can I keep my Texas DL and CHL address as they are as. The address on them is my parents home and they still reside there.
I need to be a resident of LA for at least 6 months before I can get a Louisiana CHL. I would prefer to just keep my texas and florida chls, but I think Louisiana is trying to change the law to not recognize out of state resident licenses.
How do you change your address on CHL?

Re: How do you change your address on CHL?
IANAL! Kind of a dual citizenship issue. The CHL from texas requires the valid TXDL so I don't think Texas would honor the LADL....so you might have to remain quiet to carry. I do know that being in possession of duplicate ID could get you in trouble....that is why you should destroy your old CHL when you get a new one or change address etc.
I don't know what LA is going to do to your TXDL when you go and get a LADL either. Will they mark it or cut a corner? If not you might just remain an expat Texan for the six months you need. If they do mark your TXDL I think you are done. I guess it depends of LA as to what they require for residency? This is similar to a student being out of state for school but a perminat res. with your parents.
I'll let you decide on the moral aspects, but it seems you might have to skirt the law here and the consequences might be steep
if you get caught.
There may be some way around this and it sure seems like a good question. Maybe other here have been through this? KIds going to school out of state?

Well I just got my LA car insurance about an hour ago. 1) they told me the DMV here confiscates your Texas DL before issing you a Louisiana DL.
2) Texas now DOES issue CHLs for out-of-state people. The only problem is...how much longer will Louisiana recognize out of state resident licences...they are raising a big to-do about the Florida licenses some people have here now

That's the prerogative of the Louisiana state government. Texas has no say in who accepts our licenses.Doug.38PR wrote:Well I just got my LA car insurance about an hour ago. 1) they told me the DMV here confiscates your Texas DL before issing you a Louisiana DL.

Right, I was just stating that as something that's brewing here in LA. Not looking for the lone star state to rescue me there. I'd just like to know how to change my address quickly and with ease to my Louisiana address on my texas chl.
