I got the Blues...

Post by Popshot »

...the waiting on my CHL Blues!

I finished my class last night! I mailed the application to DPS today!

I guess I can best use this time to prepare for the first day of licensed carry. Ingrain situational awareness into everday activity. Improve marksmanship. Be watchful for places with 30.06 and 51% signs. Improve marksmanship. Reseach concealment methods. Improve marksmanship.

So much to do! Maybe it will make the time pass quickly.

You are right, there is much to do in terms of adjusting your outlook to suit your new situation.

A game I like to play is, "How calmly can I walk away / drive away from this aggressive person who seems to be looking for a fight?"

It goes against the grain to walk away from rude comments / incitements, rather than responding verbally (defending yourself). However, considering how fast things can get out of hand, it is often the wisest course of action.

Anyway, welcome to waiting. Try to savor the anticipation, not knowing which day your license will arrive but knowing it will do so. To me, this is akin to the anticipation after you order your Garand from the CMP. You know that one day soon, the FedEx truck will show up with your Garand, but you don't know when - so every day, getting home from work is an adventure. Will it be here today or not? If not, maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, you took the proper steps - class and application - the next move is theirs.

Regards,
Andrew

Congratulations on passing your tests, Popshot!

Actually, there really is a lot you can do between now and when it arrives (on top of your regular work load), that the time will pass fairly quickly if you keep yourself busy with them. Just spending more time at the range or finding that just-right holster, as well as shooting the breeze with some of the great members of this forum will help the time fly!

Good luck on the wait, and here's to hoping that it's short for you! :cheers2:

31 days after application I have received my PIN and status is "Processing application". Sounds good so far. I've been busy at the range and learning to be more aware of my surroundings.
