Got a Great and SAFE Haircut

Post by TDDude »

We're always hammering businesses that turn away legal gun owners so I just wanted to let everyone know of a place that encourages CHL to do business there.

Its a REAL barbershop where men cut men's hair and it doesn't stink like it does where the "stylists work". They do have a couple of nice lady barbers but the rest of the staff are men who have been at it a while. There aint no appointments and no one's there to take down your phone number when you walk in. You'll need to bring cash cause they do not take plastic. They even employ a "Shine Boy" that will shine your shoes while you get a haircut. There's a few dead animals on the wall, a couple vintage Marine recruiting posters and one old tv in the corner with a game on.

BUT, the coolest thing I saw today was something that wasn't there the last time I went in. It was a home made sign that had the gunbuster picture without the slash. Just a red circle around a pistol.
The caption read:

"Concealed Handguns Welcome Here."

"We're all carrying ours."

I've been getting my haircut there for a while now but I've never learned the name of the place. Its at the northeast corner of Perry and 1960 in Northwest Houston. That might even be considered Jersey Village but I don't know. You can see a Kirby Vacume store when you drive by on 1960 and its behind it in the strip center.

So, for a good haircut in the SAFEST barbershop in Houston, you all now know where to go.

I've got a great barbershop like that. I was there last week and got a haircut and a shave. They don't have a "CHLs Welcome" sign out front, but I talk hog-hunting and handguns with the old boy who cuts my hair. It's the Back-N-Time Barber Shop in Colleyville.

Just emailed my step dad and some friends who live in north Houston about this place. Thanks for the tip. Nothing better than an old-fashioned barber shop. Hair cut and a warm soap straight razor shave is the male version of whatever it is our wives do at the hair salon for hours ;-)

SWEET, that's less than 4 miles from where I work! Thanks for the tip, I'll be needing a cut soon.

I'm tired of getting my hair cut by women who smell like Lord-knows-what that stuff is "rlol" Do you happen to remember the name of the guy who cuts your hair? I'll be sure to let him know that I'm there because he's gun friendly...

Here is a fun question to ask your Barber.
"Did you get a Barber License or Cosmetology license?"
If he says Cosmetology, get out of there. They are not a REAL Barber. There is a difference. If they have a Cosmetology license and they are Straight Razor shaving you, they are breaking the law and were never properly trained to do so.
If you are in the Coppell Area go to Bethal Road Barber shop, the Barber there is on the Texas BARBER ADVISORY BOARD. He also gives a good Haircut, but isnt doing Straight Razor shaves on the face anymore for various reasons.

Places like Roosters (for the most part), Sportsclips, Supercuts, and the like are Cosmetologists trying to pass themselves off as Barbers. Also you will notice they will says things like "Mens Haircut" or "Mens grooming" or "Salon" it wont say "Barber" because they arent one.

Sorry personal Pet Peeve, most people dont know the difference.

I own two family salons and I have that attitude. You'll have to come to San Antonio though. I'm independent and not affiliated with any of the franchises. For now, I'm keeping with the "keep it concealed, don't talk about it" mentality, but am pondering on it.

marksiwel - All my stylists have cosmetology licenses. We do LOTS of men's haircuts and being in San Antonio, lots of military haircuts. I don't see how you construe these as "trying to pass themselves off as barbers". You are correct in that we can not use blades. Nor can we use the red and white striped barbers poles. BTW - male cosmetologists are very hard to find. I'd love to hire some.

I haven't been to a barber/cutter since 1998.

My wife does mine in the garage. She's gotten pretty good at it.
I get a # 3 on top and a #1 on the sides.

The only compromise is I have to do her toenails.
Lets just keep that one between us.

I remember joking with a lady a few years ago that she should charge me less because I have less hair - and she said "No, I should charge you more."

"Uh - how does that work?"

I have a nice barber shop I get mine cut at. There's also some Marine posters and other military stuff on the wall. There's even a red and white striped pole out front. A ex-Marine from Viet Nam cuts my hair. We talk guns, but have never really broached the carry question yet.

Flat top as low as it will go and #0 on the sides and back. Makes a lot of people think I'm either a Marine or a cop and they behave differently around me.
