30.06 at Fitness Facility
The Memorial Hermann Wellness Center located at 7731Southwest Freeway in front of Memorial Hermann hopital. It is a fitness center open to the public. It's located near the Sharpstown area which is not a very safe place these days. A 30.06 sign has been posted in the front in one inch white letters which don't stand out very well but does relay the message. This facility has had some problems with people sneaking in undetected and we just recently had an assult where a member was knocked to the ground inside the facitity and his cell phone was taken and the attacker ran out a back door and got away. Secuity is a joke. I feel it is wrong for this facility to unarm license handgun holders and then not protect them properly. I go there so I know a bit about what is going on and the problems with member safety. Anyone's thoughts on this and should this place have the right to unarm members and yet not provide adequate security for them???

I wouldn't go to any place around Shots-town with a gun.

If I was a member there, I would cancel my membership the moment that sign was posted. And I'd make the manager meet me outside or elsewhere to do the paperwork. If they balked at me cancelling my membership, or in any threatened financial retaliation for me "breaking a membership contract" or whatever, I'd remind them that they changed the terms of the contract by posting the sign and give them the name of my attorney.
I would NEVER step foot inside the facility again.

Of course they have the right to post the sign as it's private property. You have the right to cancel your membership and work out elsewhere.

Maybe they are just misinformed, somebody might have told them signs keep out guns. Just re-educate them on the fact of "that sign" only keeps out GG W/guns, BG W/guns are still allowed. If they fail to see the errors of their ways then as said above cancel your contract.

Re: 30.06 at Fitness Facility
I am no longer an employee of the Wellness Center. Now that I'm not working there I can safely say that if you are looking for a facility to work out in you need to stay clear of this place. It's bad enough that they post 30.06 outside the door but the security that we have is a joke. When I arrive in the very early hours of the morning I would find these fat slobs dead asleep in their security turcks. I actually had to walk up to their car window and bang on the door to get them to wake up. These are the same trust worthy life savers that are there to protect you since you now are disarmed and your gun is in the car. The front door staff could care less who comes in the door. ID's are not checked on a regular basis and peope can enter the establishment from a side door that is open to the parking lot and has no security cameras. Like I said we already had one person assulted and personal belongings taken by force. If you are a CHL carrier I wouldn't give these people the time of day let alone my money for a membership.
