Anyone know if the Shrine circus at Fair Park would be off limits? Thanks
Re: Shrine Circus
If it's at Fair Park, it can't be off limits, even with a 30.06 posting.txbirddog wrote:Anyone know if the Shrine circus at Fair Park would be off limits? Thanks

Re: Shrine Circus
If the park is owned by a governmental entity, there are restrictions that result in a 30.06 being unenforceable or binding on CHL holders with an exception of notification for the purpose of prohibiting carry at meeting of a governmental entity. So, assuming they aren't having a meeting during the circus (you can argue I suppose that City Council meetings

are THE Circus.
) a 30.06 posting would generally not apply to a CHL holder.

But, if you are carrying a gun, they can require you to give them your personal information before allowing you to enter.

Re: Shrine Circus
Private vendors leasing government-owned space may require almost anything from you. They may require paid admission, ID, signatures, security searches, almost anything, so long as they don't discriminate.
Almost anything.
They can't deny you admission because of your concealed handgun, if you have a CHL.
Texas Penal Code 30.06(e): "It is an exception to the application of this section that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035."

But, for the last 2 years during the State Fair they overstepped their authority and last year they wrote down CHL's personal information before allowing them to enter (not all, but a good portion of the CHL's that visited). Don't comply, you don't enter and DPD officers witnessed this and did nothing.
Big thread on this very topic from last year.
So, whadda gonna do? the TSRA didn't touch it as far as I know.
They printed an "obligatory" article in their mag that said they were aware and investigating, but never saw anything further than that.

If they attempt to collect personal information, ask to see a police officer. Advise the officer that you have a CHL and the security is asking for personal information you aren't comfortable with sharing with the private security, but would be happy to show your plastic to the officer. I think that's what people who got hassled at the state fair did.

No, it was not.
It was just as I said it was and you, obviously, were one of these:

Re: Shrine Circus
There's no law requiring you to tell the private vendor your religion, if you have a CHL, how you voted, etc.chabouk wrote:Private vendors leasing government-owned space may require almost anything from you.
