Enchanted Rock!?!?!?

Post by DONT TREAD ON ME »

Planning a trip to Enchanted Rock SNA this weekend and decided to call them and make sure that I was able to carry there.

Got some interesting info from one of the staff that you all might like to hear.

1) I was informed that I was able to carry there...as long as I informed them ahead of time. Anyone else ever hear of this? This one is news to me.

2) I was informed that there is no need to carry as it is a very safe and secluded area and there was nothing there that warranted carrying and the only thing that would "bother" me would maybe be a raccoon.

Anywho, thought some of you might enjoy this information and would like to know that nothing will happen to you at Enchanted Rock SNA.

You need to watch out for those Raccoons (they wear masks for a reason).... "I think you underestimate their sneakiness. They are very very sneaky." :biggrinjester:

I carried there a couple weeks ago. I did not inform anyone that I was carrying. Yeah, I love sticking it to the man. :thumbs2:

I camped overnight with some friends, and didn't have any need for my guns. There were three or four loose dogs running around although they were more interested in chasing deer.

Don't get me wrong I am not doubting that it is a "safer" area but we all know that "stuff" can happen anytime and anywhere.

That's nonsense. It is a State Park, there is no requirement for notification and you cannot be legally banned from carry. Aside from the very specific places where carry is not allowed in the TPC (Courthouses, jails/prisons, posted governmental meetings, secure areas of an airport, secure areas of a police station - if given notice and secure storage is provided, schools or locations in use for scholastic activities, scholastic or professional sporting event venues during an event) you cannot be banned from carry on State, City, or County government property.

I've carried at Enchanted Rock, no problems. "Secluded" areas provide an ideal environment for many criminal acts. This is the very reason I've avoided Big Bend National Park and Padre Island National Seashore until the National Park carry law went into effect.

So much for Enchanted Rock being safe...

I think I would have informed them that it was not raccoons I was worried about, it would be skunks. The two-legged variety.

I think you misunderstood. I think you should carry everywhere legally possible (and the illegal places are a judgement call for each of us to make for ourselves). In no way did I mean to come across as saying that my one less than eventful trip somehow proves that you'll never need a handgun at Enchanted Rock. The loose dogs thing didn't bother me at all, but a family with small children might see it as a much more serious problem. Also, the trip over there and back isn't "guaranteed" to be safe either.

Oh, and don't make a fire out in the primitive camping areas, they don't like it when you do that.

Don't forget extra water and a backup flashlight. A friend of mine got lost on the magic rock and wound up spending half the night wandering around. He said it was so dark he could see just as well with his eyes closed. He was finally rescued by a pack of friendly "hippies". They explained that their ability to see in the dark was due to consumption of a special tea made from mushrooms. He declined the tea and they led him down the "mountain". :txflag:
Have fun - but don't drink the enchanted tea!

The only animals I have concerns over are the bipedal hominids.

It's a state park.

Enjoy your time. It's a beautiful area, when it isn't crowded.

Dont tell.

Concerning the Racoons there.
I am an old trapper & the 'coons are your bread & butter out there.
Dont underestimate them because they are so cute when waddling along, climbing trees, or curling up in a hollow log.

Mature 'coon will whoop the daylights out of 1 big dog on the ground & several in the water.

If they were as big as a German Shepherd I believe they could whoop a bear.

Have fun.
