Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
In El Paso (I think) two off-duty police officers were driving together when another vehicle rear-ended theirs. When they got out to converse with the other driver, he ran over one of the officers. The other officer shot him.

Re: Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
Given the news reports about life on our southern border, I have to wonder about the demeanor, dress and ethnicity of the folk involved in this incident.

There's a little more information in this article.

notice how both articles are titled with someone got shot instead of someone ran over a police officer.

I say kudos on a good shot, as long as it was justified of course.

Re: Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
It was El Paso, the officers were in plain clothes, and the incident occurred at 4 p.m. yesterday:

And you guys wonder why I challenge the usage of news articles in police complaints :)puma guy wrote:Very Astute!XtremeDuty.45 wrote:notice how both articles are titled with someone got shot instead of someone ran over a police officer.
Don't really know alot of details but I think the word "victim" may be misused here. Time will tell."He hit her, backed up. The male officer gave him verbal commands to stop and shot the victim when he noticed she was still down in direct line of the vehicle,"
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas Edison
Re: Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
I don't know if most media will ever refer to LEO's as victims no matter what the circumstances. If the actor had continued to move forward and driven over the real victim (lady LEO) I still doubt she'd be described as the victim. We don't have all the details but if what I read in the articles is proven, it's a righteous shoot! Prayers for the victim and the shooter; as well as the driver.gigag04 wrote:And you guys wonder why I challenge the usage of news articles in police complaints :)puma guy wrote:Very Astute!XtremeDuty.45 wrote:notice how both articles are titled with someone got shot instead of someone ran over a police officer.

Re: Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
The term victim means anyone who is injured. We talk about the victim of a fall or drowning without any moral implications.

Re: Off-duty LEO shoots driver who ran over other LEO
Agreed, but the word victim tends to induce/solicit sympathy and both individuals are victims. Only one was described as such in the article, which I believe is the point. No one knows the mind of the author so it's opinion as to whether it was an intentional distinction. IMHOseamusTX wrote:The term victim means anyone who is injured. do you really think ANYONE thinks the cops are the bad guys in situations like these?

I don't think of any involved as good or bad at this point. It's possible the driver moved forward again unintentionally, but the LEO reacted to stop the threat he perceived from the driver - intentional or not. There probably couldn't be a happy ending here ; the LEO gets run over again or the driver is stopped.
