Voting test?

Post by drjoker »

Considering the quality of folks who voted for Obama:

And considering that CHLers are much less likely to commit crimes, statistically,

Why not require a $140 fee and a written (multiple choice) citizenship test in English before people are allowed to vote? Nothing fancy, but just a 5 question test of literacy and basic knowledge of government. For example;

1. Who is your congressman?
A. Sam Johnson B. Pete Sessions C. Margaret Thatcher D. Jesse Jackson
2. Who is your senator?
A. Bin Laden B. John Cornyn C. Bruce Willis D. Air Jordan
3. Who is your president?
A. Obama B. Osama C. Clinton D. Bush
4. Name one supreme court justice.
A. Pelosi B. Thomas C. Eminem D. Shakira
5. Name one consitutional right.
A. Right to a job B. Right to die C. Right to bear arms D. Right to smoke weed

If we were to do this, I suspect more law abiding citizens would vote for law abiding polititians.

bdickens: how is this racism? It is not an oral test like the racist election tests of the post civil war reconstruction era. Those tests were racist because the examiner would always flunk blacks no matter what their answers were. This is a multiple choice exam. One of the answers HAVE to be correct. To all those liberals who think we should be a bilingual society, please consider that would make us into an Empire like the Soviet Union NOT a Country. Multiculturalism means political instability within a nation. I speak 5 languages and I enjoy/honor different cultures, BUT EVERYONE in the United States of America should know English. If we have too many people speaking other languages without knowledge of English, then we'll wake up in an politically unstable empire that can only be stabilized with the loss of liberty and the start of a presidential dictatorship like Russia has. Oh wait, a bill was just introduced that would make big O dictator: http://www.thelibertyvoice.com/could-am ... ctatorship by McCain and Lieberman! Maybe we should just vote "none of the above" at the next election. When voting for the lesser of two evils, one is still voting for evil....

I think question 3 is a trick question; answer should be "none of the above"

How about requiring a $200 tax stamp every time you vote, and require a sign off from your local police chief, but you can't vote if you were born after 1986.
When in doubt

Didn't tactics such as this precipitate some later Constitutional Amendment that allowed all citizens to vote just as the preceding 2nd Amendment allowed us the RKBA without local, state or spousal approval?

Just askin'...

This would be a blatant violation of the 24th amendment. You should have learned that in school.

There is no constitutional requirement that I am aware of requiring a citizen of the united states to know english before being able to vote.

The ONLY test I would be for would be a simple citizenship check, and this check would need to be paid for by the county, not by the voter.

Somebody has a lot of built up anger. A number of counts have been done by independant groups that prove Bush won the election in FL. Think you could get us a copy of your presidents birth certificate?

Unfortunately, GWB could have done much to alleviate our present domestic crisis with more attention to domestic issues during his TWO terms and less involvement in foreign isues that did not concern the U.S....IMO.

No more than NICS, NFA, etc. violate the 2nd Amendment.

Which was kind of the point he was making. I think.
