TX Cash for Appliances: Buy 'em April 16-25, 2010. Get cash.

Anyone who needs major appliances should buy them between April 16 and April 25, 2010.

Texas has $23.3 million available for people buying brand new major appliances.

Happy shopping folks. I hope someone takes advantage of this and saves some dinero.

I haven't taken the time to drill down for the details on this, but there's some money on
the table, so go for it.

With the money you save, you can put it towards a new gun. :-)

I AM VINDICATED!!!

I work at Home Depot, selling appliances, and in the past weeks I have predicted just the sort of telephone and internet problems as are occuring. At yesterday's meeting I made my prediction once more, and was roundly scoffed at by others - "I am sure the State of Texas will have planned for the overload." and "They know what the load is likely to be and have planned for it." and "They have seen what happened in other states, so they know what is likely to happen here." were some of the statements aimed at me.

I am a retired telephone man and have seen this kind of thing occur more times than I care to try to count.

If you think this is bad, wait until the stores start opening on the morning of the 16th.

BWWAAAHAHAHAHA!

Well, there is total gridlock on this, on both the phone system, and internet:

"We appreciate everyone’s patience: Our Web site is getting 1,700 hits per second, and our phone lines are receiving about 1,000 calls per minute."

They have(as of 11am) taken off the button to apply online on their website. :totap:

Needless to say, I haven't been able to register.

BTW, here is the link to the official site, instead of following the news articles.

I note that the money available figure is going down by about a million per hour, so they must be handling the calls fairly rapidly. Still no internet access and the phone line is either busy or reorder (what most people call "fast busy")

I am so not looking forward to the morning of the 16th.

Herein my predictions.

Demand for certain appliances will be so great that they will be "out of stock" in short order and delivery dates will begin to move out. Backlogs will build up on certain appliances to the point that the delivery dates will be longer than the 60 days given to apply for the rebate, and that will result in some very unhappy customers unless the state decides to move the final dates out in resonse.

People, being what they are generically, will blame Home Depot, Sears, Lowe's, and all of the other retailers for the state's failures.

Violence will be rampant.

Well, maybe not that last, but all the rest.

There are some excellent deals on things, if they are what you want. We have a Hotpoint 17 cuft refrigerator which normally sells for $439.00, with a 10% discount for being Energy Star, will result, after the mail in rebates, in a final cost of $112.30 Of course you will have to touch all of the bases and the rebates are your responsibility, not the store's.

Frustrating is an understatement. I'm wondering what if anything I'm doing wrong.

I AM getting to the website page where you select which appliance you wish to apply for. Good on that one.

BUT......when the page refreshes, it just brings me back to that page, with nothing new added...

OR.....it takes me back to the selection page and the section where you select the items you request a rebate on, is totally blued out.....leaving me with nothing.

I'm assuming it takes you to a page where you fill out your particulars, but nooooooooo. It's like I'm stuck in a loop.

Has anyone been successful in completing filling out the website page???

I'm a bit confused....

I thought everyone was upset about the gov't handouts of money they don't have.

I wonder why my link disappeared.

Well, it doesn't matter now, they are long past starting the wait list.

Several friends have called or emailed that they never got in either.

And folks are calling stores and blaming them.

And that's at a rate of two appliances per household, that had to be applied for separately.

I am so glad I don't need any new appliances. Now that I have said that I'm sure something will decide to go belly up.
