UPS customer service center at DFW Airport posted 30.06

Post by The Annoyed Man »

I was just there. The sign appears to be valid. It is located on the wall to the left of the customer entrance. It is plainly visible and of the right size, with large black letters on a white background. I didn't have a copy with me to check the wording, but it looked correct.

I was there to ship a gun I broke ( ) back to Smith & Wesson for repairs. The weird part was that I had a gun concealed in a box and entered, and they weren't upset about that. They made me open the box and the gun case and show them that the pistol was unloaded. Otherwise, everything went smoothly. It was my first time to ship a gun anywhere.

BTW, the injured baby was my new M&P 45. I tried to gussy up some of the engagement surfaces in the action and messed it all up. You live and you learn. You can order the sear housing assembly that fits the 9mm/.357 Sig/.40 cal. pistols, but not for the M&P 45. When I called S&W to try and order one, their parts guy told me that they only release that part for the .45 to police and military armorers. He said they don't even sell it to gunsmiths, and that if I took it to my gunsmith, he would just have to ship it to them anyway. Bizarre...

He told me to enclose a letter explaining the situation, and to ship it next day air by either UPS or FedEx. S&W will then get back to me in 3 weeks (!) with a quote for the cost of repairs. Then they take my credit card number before doing the work. He said total turnaround time is 4 to 6 weeks. Oh well...

What were you trying to do with the M&P? Sand the action down to smooth it out?

I go to both UPS and FedEx almost daily.

Actual UPS facilities (not UPS stores) are all posted with a proper 30.06 sign.

FedEx facilities all have a generic "no weapons allowed on these premises" sign.

When I have a choice, I use FedEx.

Yeah, something like that. I really messed up, and the entire sear housing block has to be replaced, apparently. The sear housing block assembly only costs about $30.00, but S&W won't sell and ship them to either a gunsmith or an end user. I don't know why... both Brownell's and Midway show the part as available for the smaller calibers — just not for the .45 ACP. S&W requires you to send them the gun instead.

Thanks for the information. I went to the UPS store first because we were making another stop in that part of town also. When I gave the woman behind the counter the shipping address and she entered it into their system, she stopped and pointedly asked me what was in the box. (Their software must have flagged the S&W address.) I answered "a firearm," and she informed me that they couldn't accept it there and directed me to the customer service center by the airport, which is where I saw the sign.

There is actually a FedEx store closer to my home than the UPS store, but going from the UPS store, their customer service facility was closer to me than going back to the FedEx store; so I went there first. I didn't realize that it would be posted but by then I was done with driving around town just to ship a simple box. Of course, if I have to do it again I'll know better.

Smooth trigger in a .45ACP? They make a kit for that, but it's kinda pricey: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =164741391" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; :biggrinjester:

We've already got several 1911s and love them all. I have no regrets about buying the M&P. I do have regrets about trying to improve on it.

Fedex. 8110 Tristar Dr in Irving. Just north of DFW. I've never noticed any type of sign, not even a gunbuster.

Was there last month. They have a "no firearms" sign next to the door. I walked in (left the package in the car) and told them I had a packaged unloaded pistol to ship, and they said, "bring it in."
