Cars with Mexican License Plates: Who are they?
I see them more and more. Parking lots, freeways, college apartments, cruising down I-10, etc. Are they the rich corrupt elite from Mexico? Who are they?
You can spot them, because sometimes they're Peugots, or Seats (european brands not available here), and they have hyphens in their plate #'s.

Re: Cars with Mexican License Plates: Who are they?
Over Easter, we have an influx of people from Mexico who make a "pilgrimage" to Corpus Christi (Latin: Body of Christ). I was told also that is preferable to come here than stay in Mexico as it's safer here. Also, most of those I saw were ordinary families.

I guess I'm confused. Do you have to have some sort of connections to get a liscense plate plate in mexico? If not, my answer would be those you saw with Mexican liscense plates are probably Mexican citizens?

Katy Mills Mall (I know, I know) had special deals for foreign shoppers this month, timed for Holy Week.

Although Mexican nationals do have to have "connections" to get a visa to enter the United States. Connections at the US Embassy or Consulate... In general they need to be well off enough to convince the US officials that they aren't going stay and/or work without a work visa. Surprising the the US doesn't grant visas to every Tom, Dick, and Harry (or should that be Tomas, Ricardo, and Gerardo) that wants to buy cheap stuff at Wal-Mart...
And finally, this all related to the General Texas CHL Discussion how?? Time to move to Off Topic...

Just like Ladies' Night is discriminatory. And the free kid's meals with an adult entree.Boma wrote:special deals for foreign shoppers? Isn't that discrimination?boomerang wrote:Katy Mills Mall (I know, I know) had special deals for foreign shoppers this month, timed for Holy Week.
It's been going on for years. What burns me, though, is not the special sales (anyone can go shopping at the mall during Holy Week and fight the crowds, US and Mexican to get the sale prices), but the fact that Mexican nationals can have the sales tax they pay refunded if they take what they buy back across the border. Something about it being unconstitutional to collect state taxes on exports.
Some info here:

and here, at the bottom of the page:

So, yes, the folks with Mexican plates are Mexican nationals who came to Texas to visit and shop. Some even have homes here where they live for a few months out of the year. Hopefully, the cartel people aren't among them.

If you shop in Europe, and pay VAT (national sales tax), you can get it refunded. Here's a few ways.

Americans enjoy the same privilege in other countries. When I was stationed in Germany, whenever we made a significant purchase "on the economy" instead of through the PX, we filled out paperwork and they would take off or refund the VAT.UpTheIrons wrote:It's been going on for years. I regularly see Mexican plates on US 59, I-20, and I-30. A lot of times I see one Mexican van followed by three or four sets of trucks towing cars, all of them obviously just purchased at auction. One of our major exports to Mexico seems to be used cars.

I see a whole lot more plates from Ontario, though. We're being overrun by Canuckians!
Re: Cars with Mexican License Plates: Who are they?
You have to remember, with the falling U.S. Dollar, the U.S. is ON SALE!! Has been for along, long time. I get "sticker shock" when I go to Europe and have a burger for lunch!!
