As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Voted this morning.
:txflag:
Charles Perry, for whom I voted based on him being supported by the TSRA over incumbent Delwin Jones, evidently won.

Charles Perry to start new career in Austin

LUBBOCK, (KCBD) - An era of politics in West Texas is over. Some describe the District 83 race as a Cinderella story. Charles Perry, a Tea Party conservative who was outspent by his opponents throughout the entire race, points to his campaign's grassroots efforts.

Perry will now represent the man who represented him for 30 years, Delwin Jones.

It was repeated notices from TSRA that got me off my upholstery and to the polling place. Good job on their part.

One recent email I recieved from TSRA said:

400K Texas CHLs do not have Rep. Delwin Jones to thank!
Dear Michael,

State Representative Delwin Jones (R-Lubbock) was the only Republican in 1995 to vote against SB 60 by Senator Jerry Patterson, Texas Concealed Carry legislation. Delwin Jones voted to add all 8 gutting amendments to kill, weaken, or complicate the right to carry for Texans. . . .

Don't let Delwin Jones' B rating fool you! Any TSRA score below an A indicates there are problems. Rep. Delwin Jones has carried this B rating for 15 years and never once attempted to make amends with Texas Gun Owners. Delwin Jones couldn't be trusted to vote for your right to self protection in 1995 and nothing has changed.

TSRA supports Republican candidate Charles Perry!

HD 83 and 400,000 Texas Concealed Handgun Licensees deserve better.

So, Jones is history. Perry is in.

Yes he did and this is very good news! Delwin Jones voted against concealed carry in 1995 (SB60) and consistently voted against improvements. He is so anti-CHL he commented that he wished he had had the opportunity to vote against other CHL bills like campus-carry and employer parking lots. Even more important is that he would have been the Chairman of the all-important re-districting committee during the 2011 legislative session.

He will not be missed by gun owners.

As both a former constituent of Delwin Jones and a former SCCC board member who watched Mr. Jones bash our organization in condescending terms that would have made Peter Hamm proud, I watched this runoff election closely. I definitely did a little happy dance in my living room last night, when Perry was declared the winner.

I only hope that Sen. Robert Duncan sees these turn of events and decides not to stall our campus carry legislation in his committee next year. His re-election is in 2012.
