DHS office at DFW

Post by Ace_Inthe_O »

I am going for my Global Entry interview on Friday at DFW and am thinking I won't be allowed to carry. The office in is the Unsecured portion of the airport so I won't be going through any WMDs but I assume this is federal property and therefore am not allowed to carry. Here's what I pulled from the website:

"We are located at Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport at Terminal D. Park in Terminal D parking lot level one. We are located outside of security near International Arrivials. Once at International Arrivals, follow signage to Global Entry just south of International Arrivals along the outside hallway to the door with a "Dept of Homeland Security" seal."

Please let me know if I am wrong as I would rather carry then have to disarm in the car.

Thanks

just speculation, but DHS is a Federal Entity, so just like a post office on property that the USPS leases is considered federal, the DHS office should also be considered off limits for a concealed handgun.

I believe it is a customs/immigration pre-screening program for people that travel in/out of the country very frequently. The idea is you get a background check and interview and then when you're coming through customs/immigration they will more frequently just wave you through, although they can still choose to make you go through additional screening.

If it's DHS property it is considered posted, even if it's not, by DHS anyway.

This is correct except you get to skip all passport control lines when entering in to the US (which can save you hours). You use a special machine which scans your passport and your fingerprint then allows you to proceed to the next available CBP officer. Also if there is no Global Entry kiosk available you get to use the crew line. If you travel internationally even a once a year I think its more then worth it. ($100/5 years)

18 USC 930(a)
Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

18 USC 930(g)
As used in this section:
(1) The term “Federal facility” means a building or part thereof owned or leased by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties.

18 USC 930(h)
Notice of the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility, and notice of subsection (e) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal court facility, and no person shall be convicted of an offense under subsection (a) or (e) with respect to a Federal facility if such notice is not so posted at such facility, unless such person had actual notice of subsection (a) or (e), as the case may be.

So: you have the "crime" defined, then clarification of where it applies, followed by an exemption if proper notice isn't posted.

 That's interesting! I haven't seen the notice posted at the entrance to the Post Office that I frequent. It's posted on the bulletin board inside.

Does this mean .?.?.?..... never mind, Don't want to get that started again. :banghead:

Yes, please don't (or at least continue it in one of the umpty-jillion post office threads).

18 USC 930 doesn't apply to post offices. They have their own CFR.
