Updated 6:00 p.m. - Orange Police Captain Sparky Robinson confirmed on KFDM News at Six that Mickey McNamara died after he was attacked and his business robbed earlier Wednesday afternoon.
According to the original report below, the employee also injured in the attack suffered a concussion and a broken arm and is in serious condition.
Earlier Report - Police in Orange are looking for a man accused of using a baseball bat to attack a longtime business owner and an employee during a robbery which led to a lockdown at a nearby middle school.
Mickey McNamara, the owner of McNamara Insurance, and an employee, were attacked at about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday at McNamara Insurance, 1212 Green Avenue in Orange, according to information provided to KFDM News by Chief Sam Kittrell.
Kittrell said the attacker struck the businessman and employee with a blunt object. Witnesses say it was a baseball bat.
McNamara was flown to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by a Southeast Texas Air Rescue Helicopter. The employee, Joyce Cross, was taken to the hospital by ambulance and is in serious condition with a concussion and a broken arm. Cross is McNamara's cousin.
Police have put up crime scene tape around the insurance business.
West Orange Stark Middle School was placed on lockdown and administrators released students at 3 p.m., about 45 minutes early.
Chief Kittrell said witnesses describe the robber as a black man, 20-30 years old, wearing a dark colored shirt, dark colored pants and a blue cap.

The injured secretary was able to make a statement. On the Noon news today it was reported she was alone in the office when the assailant entered asked if she was alone. When she answered yes he stepped outside and then returned with the weapon and began beating her. The owner reterned to the office at that time and was attacked.

On Friday, April 23, 2010 approximately 3:00 p.m. an arrest warrant was served on Joseph Edward Roberts Jr. for the murder of Michael "Mickey" McNamara Jr. that occurred at 1212 Green Avenue on Wednesday April 21, 2010. (McNamara Insurance) This arrest culminated from what has been a non-stop investigation on the part of officers and investigators from the Orange Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Orange County District Attorney's Office, Vidor Police Department, West Orange Police Department, and the F.B.I.
The citizens of the greater Orange area, the West Orange Cove Consolidated Independent School District, and especially Mickey McNamara's fellow businessmen and women contributed greatly toward the investigative effort. Every business person that we contacted and many contacted us before we could even get to them, provided security camera video recorded at times and places relevant to our investigation as well as other information that allowed us to develop the evidence needed to obtain the arrest warrant for Joseph Edward Roberts Jr.
The Orange police department wants to thank those officers and citizens who assisted us in this investigation. While no additional arrests are imminent the investigation will continue for some time in order to discover all of the facts relating to this event. The charge today only relates only to the death of Mickey McNamara. There was another victim in this incident and upon the completion of our investigation the case, in its entirety, will be submitted to the District Attorney for Orange County.
Because the investigation is continuing we will not be releasing any additional investigative information beyond the details in the accompanying affidavit of probable cause for arrest.
