How to handle a firearm sale issue months later

Post by pbwalker »

I got an email from the guy I sold my Tokarev to (about 2 months ago) and he said the firing pin was broken. Now, when I fired it, it worked flawlessly. But 2 months later he comes back and says it is broken...

How do you handle these types of situations? I mean...it's a $19 part.

Same way you would if you sold him a car, and 2 months later it breaks...

Make sure to clearly inform the guy that it was Sold 'AS-IS' on this, and all future transactions. :thumbs2:

Unfortunately, things like this happen. I would tell him that I was sorry that it happened, but, as dicion said, explain that the gun was sold "as-is" with no implied or expressed warranty. IMO, it doesn't matter if it a $19 part or a $200 part.

If you're a nice guy, you might send him a link where to buy a new firing pin. ;-)

The guy expects a warranty on a military surplus pistol that's been out of production since 1954?

Everyone here is right on. To me, it seems ridiculous that he would even call you about it.

I wouldn't give him money or buy the part, but you could recommend a place to purchase the part, like a store or website.

That pretty much says it all right there.

I'd say the buyer has some nerve, unless the guy is claiming he didn't fire it at all (dry or otherwise) during those two months and "just now realized the firing pin is broken" ... even then, I wouldn't offer anything. But it would at least explain why he is now asking.
