Linda Self spent Sunday morning telling her story to reporters. She's relieved that police have arrested a man suspected of robbing her and at least three other women during a crime spree last week in downtown Dallas.
Police won't release the suspect's name until victims and witnesses view a photo lineup. But they say he is a homeless felon who they found Saturday night in an Oak Cliff house after an intensive manhunt. He is in jail on an unrelated burglary charge with bail set at $150,000.
Self, 63, refused to give up her purse to the robber Thursday on Akard Street. She said she might have complied with his demand if she had known he had a gun.
"I was tired of him pulling at me after he wrestled me to the ground. I had bruises all over," she said.
There wasn't much money in her big shoulder bag, but there was a bank card. Mostly, it was hers and she didn’t feel like giving it up.
"He should have just gone on," said Self, who lives in Glenn Heights in southwest Dallas County. "He kept arguing with me."
When the robber threatened to shoot her, she dared him to.
He shot her in the head. But he didn’t get her purse.
"They said I was going to be woozy," she said Sunday morning between local TV appearances. "[The bullet] ricocheted off the bone and it took a big chunk off my forehead. I'm going to have an indentation in my forehead."
