Here is another insurance that looks very good and specifies other gun related coverages. http://www.mmdbrokers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Interesting, but if I understood their web site, they only reimburse you after the fact. A person would still have to find a good lawyer and pay all the bills up front. I don't have that kind of money stashed away as I enjoy my guns and motorcycles too much!wgoforth wrote:Here is another insurance that looks very good and specifies other gun related coverages. http://www.mmdbrokers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have an email from the president of CHLPP stating that they'd cover any CHL-related offense. I used Handogs "Cuffed and Stuffed" situation as an example.G26ster wrote:''Ol Zeke wrote:A possible "middle of the road" solution, might be CHLPP. I went ahead and signed with them for $129 a year because they will take care of any CHL incident and help me get my gun back.

On their web site they say they only cover " acts of self-defense." That's fine, but what if I need a lawyer to cover other "infractions" that can get a CHL in trouble with the law (unintentional exposure, trespass, carrying in a prohibited place, etc.)? Those can be costly too. I don't believe I've seen any of the CHL pre-paid defense plans that cover that. Granted, the self defense issue is paramount, but I'd like to have coverage, and an attorney's number to call, for any CHL related offense.
I also signed up for a year CHLPP, but I'm not sure if I'll renew when it expires.

I wish the NRA offered insurance for CHL holders. Seems like they are missing a great opportunity. I personally would purchase it, even if it was on the expensive side. Knowing the NRA backed it would make it worth the cost. They could easily make it a nation wide plan.
God Bless America, and please hurry.

Is Self-Defense coverage close enough?
Personally, I don't care for Criminal Defense "Reimbursement".
• Criminal Defense Reimbursement for alleged criminal actions involving self-defense when you are acquitted of such criminal charges or the charges are dropped.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to look into it. It might provide a little more security.sjfcontrol wrote:VoiceofReason wrote:I wish the NRA offered insurance for CHL holders. Wow, thanks! I have CHLPP now, but when it expires at the end of the year I'll probably look into the NRA-backed service.sjfcontrol wrote:VoiceofReason wrote:I wish the NRA offered insurance for CHL holders. I'm on the phone w/my ins. co. now to find out what my personal liab. covg. actually covers. Mojotexas, did you do any more research into the NRA-backed policy?

I suggest you do your own homework. For one, just in reading some of the responses there is a lot of misinformation here regarding Pre Paid Legal. Second one posters says he wouldn't do it, but then the service he mentions he has through a law enforcement association is just that, Pre Paid Legal.
I would not hesitate to have someone to call at 2am. I have that. do you?

Re: lawyer help- preparing for the future
The NRA plan is a reimbursement policy, so you may have to take a second mortgage or cash out your retirement to pay the lawyer, if you don't have that kind of money laying around. It also doesn't pay if a corrupt DA railroads you (less likely in Texas than NY/NJ/CA) into prison or a plea bargain. You're also on your own to find your lawyer.kP380 wrote:I'm on the phone w/my ins. co. now to find out what my personal liab. covg. actually covers. All in all, it may be a worthwhile plan, but you should be aware of the limiting conditions.

My homeowners only covers civil suit due to negligence--not self defense. Oh well....the chances of home invasion and/or me needing to present a weapon in a social situation are next to nil--hopefully a non issue....
