Went to my Community Awareness Meeting

Post by USA1 »

My wife and I attended our Community Awareness Meeting for our neighborhood last night.

Turnout was very low.
Out of 770 houses in the subdivision, only 50 people showed up, and most of those were with spouses.

I did learn that there has been more crime going on than I was not aware of.
Mostly teenage vandalism, some drug dealing, a little graffiti, and the occasional burglary.

There was a Deputy from the Sheriffs Department going over home security tips, all of which
have already long been implemented at my home.

The main reason for the meeting was to discuss the formation of a Neighborhood Watch.
However, with the extremely low turnout it was not a viable option at this time.
We were told that we need at least 60% percent participation of the neighborhood to be on board.

At this point I plan to call a meeting with everyone on my block to make them aware of whats
been going on and to discuss things that we can do to keep our block safe.

It's a small step but I'm hopeful that we can get this going and let it spread to the next block and so on.

I wish you luck.

Hopefully your neighbors will care more than mine.

They all complain when crime happens but do not want to put in the time or effort to try and curb it.

I feel good about it.
I know almost everyone on my block and we have discussed this topic at one time or another individually, and most are
as concerned as I am about keeping our street safe.

There is a Sheriffs Deputy that lives across the street who shares a vested interest and should be a valuable resource for the meeting.
