A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. Those of us who are veterans the full amount of the check was never demanded.

Don't thank me on this day to honor those who paid the full amount, I still have a balance owed. The real heroes lie in neat rows in military cemeteries.

I do recognize the distinction, but when I started this thread, I just wanted to say thanks to the living, and to honor the dead. I apologize if it made you uncomfortable. I sure didn't mean it to.

I understand the sentiment and appreciate it. I'm just one of those people who can be rather pedantic at times.

When I was in the Army, I used to drive people (especially my Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant) nuts when they would try to throw imaginary, misquoted or outdated regulations at me because I would publicly - yet respectfully - call them on it every time. I never took anybody's word but went and looked it up myself. More than once, that tendency of mine kept either me or one of my soldiers from getting screwed.

Has anyone else seen an e-mail showing a bunch of American cemetaries in France, Italy, England, etc with the numbers of dead Americans from WW2? The point it makes is about Obama apologizing to every European he can find. It ends with a statement asking how many cemetaries are there in the U.S. with graves of foreigners who died defending our freedom. I know I could forward it to someones e-mail but I haven't been able to link it to this forum.
