Nervouse around the house apartment lately
So the other night my neighbor moved out of his house and in with his new girlfriend and sold us all of his old furniture (he's a good guy, got a great haul real real cheap). Anyway moving some of the heavy stuff just me and the wife and she sees some random guy walking buy and ask him for help moving and in exchange he could take anything we didn't (he sold us like his entire apartment and we left a lot there as we couldn't take it all). Anyway he gets some friends to help too (got me nervous as soon as she asked and I'm glad I was carrying) and we get everything moved. I had a job interview today and while I'm on the phone with my wife on the way home (got the job) one of the guys that helped knocked on the door told her not to answer but she did anyway and he asked for money told him no as we didn't have it (we really don't). And just now another person that helped knocked on the door I didn't answer it. Now I'm nervous around the house and for the first time I'm carrying in my own apartment on an owb holster I used when I was in Wisconsin. Fun times hope it stops soon.

Hmmm... Very weird they would be knocking on the door asking for money. Please stress the importance of not answering the door for one of them to your wife!!! I wouldn't want her to open the door and have one of them force their way in to your apartment and have their way.

Yeah when I realized she was opening it anyway I made sure to stay on the phone until the door was closed and I was less than a 5 min regular drive from home. I'm sure I could have made it in 1.5. apparently he was "10 dollars short" to pay his rent for the month. urg I hate feeling like this in my own place

This is why I never answer the door unless I know someone is coming and I verify it's them. People say it's "rude", but I'm not going to take the chance.
I hope it all passes over soon.

I strongly agree ! Make her promise !shortysboy09 wrote: Please stress the importance of not answering the door for one of them to your wife!!!
These people might be feeling the place out and could come back with bad intentions.
She needs to be armed while you're not home.
This could be nothing to worry about or it could be something you should worry about.
Don't take chances. Don't let her open the door !

What kind of weirdo goes and asks random people they helped move some stuff in exchange for leftover stuff for $10 to help pay the rent?
How did they act when they were turned down?

Guys that have now presumably been in your place helping move and feel that by knowing that, you or your spouse may be intimidated into paying them off so they go away. This is based on the presumption that the OP allowed this. I can't tell if they just helped by removing stuff from the old apartment or they helped move stuff into the new. It isn't clear to me.Fangs wrote:What kind of weirdo goes and asks random people they helped move some stuff in exchange for leftover stuff for $10 to help pay the rent?

I try not to deal with strangers when it comes to being around my property where they might be able to case my belongings.

I'm gonna make a sign for my front door that says something to the effect of "no panhandling, soliciting, asking for donations etc. Really - you should probably just leave."

I just keep a shotgun and a rag handy. My friends know why I'm "cleaning" a loaded gun when I answer the door. Others have enough sense not to ask, and usually go away quickly.7075-T7 wrote:This is why I never answer the door unless I know someone is coming and I verify it's them. I'm of the school of thought that if anyone ever sees my weapon (pistol, shotgun, etc) when I'm in my house and they're not an invited guest, then the next thing they'll see is a bright flash.KD5NRH wrote:I just keep a shotgun and a rag handy. I already have a "no solicitors" sign near my door, so if we ever get an unexpected knock, I'm armed and peep-hole to see who it is and the wife already has the phone handy. In this day and age, I'm not going to play that game.
