Re: Wally walk
You guys are right. I kant spauel. I ment the Wally Walk. When I got on the boards PDO was it. THere a lot of you young'uns here that dont even know what that was let alone remember it.
Then there was no real holster resourses on the net. Until you ran into someone that was a LEO & knew who Milt Sparks or El Paso Saddlery was you were on your own to figure out how to conceal. I made all the mistakes & learned slow & the hard way. CompTac, Crossbread, DM bullard were not even dreams in the mind of the owners yet.
Wally Walk I really believe is a product of this board. I know the "Waiting Room" is.
I may just take one to see & be able to say I have done it.
Me & the wife can trade the camera out.

I really like this post Humanphibian. All new members to this forum should be required to read this or something like it.Humanphibian wrote:I think he meant Wally Walk.....back in the day there were no established forums, no wealth of information at our finger tips, no "Wally Walk" rite of passage....nothing. Our greatest resource (for me anyway) was former LEO/Military training, and if for some... "pointers" from friends and family in the LEO community that had been carrying undercover. As valuable as this information was at the time, it was VERY hard to come by without some sort of inside connections. CHL'ers were still "outsiders" in the gun tote'n community and looked down at by many in the Law Enforcement profession.
Times have changed. Newbies now only need logon, lookup and learn. Thousands of CHL'ers have posted tens of thousands personal accounts of what works for them, and what hasn't. ANYTHING you want to know....there is a good possibility that you can find it out there. Nowdays...CHL'ers are our own best resource....and perhaps the irony in the whole thing may be that CHL'ers are driving the concealment product market and providing UC LEO's with products, knowledge, training and concealed carry methodology that was not available to LEO's in the past.

After the 1st walk, it only gets easier, then becomes second nature.

Re: Wally walk
First Wally Walk completed today. Ammo purchase 100% successful. Also graced the Home Depot with a lengthy walk. Today's cold front allowed for a sweatshirt cover over the xd9sc in its MTAC.

Re: Wally walk
For me, when I did my Wally Walk, it wasn't as big of a deal as the first couple of times I went into gun stores while carrying concealed. In a Wal-Mart, you have a lot of clueless people who aren't paying any attention to you. In a gun store, you're surrounded by lots of gun-totin' folks, and most of them know all about concealed carry. Of course they're typically more sympathetic to your cause, and if they DO spot you printing they're more likely to let you know in a friendly way rather than calling 911 to report "a man with a gun." Still, to successfully go into a gun store, talk to the sales staff, look at and/or buy some gear, and then leave...without having someone point out that you're packing...that was a much more significant experience to me. I think after that I finally completely relaxed, and now I feel "naked" when I'm NOT carrying.

Re: Wally walk
Congrats on the plastic. There was not a Wally World in my day either but we carried anyway. Now a days it is a different world for us old guys. I must say I have done my Wally and Academy walk. What makes you feel good is when you can stand next to a couple of LEOS in the stores and not feel uncomfortable that you are carrying next to them and they don't give you much of a look. Oh, they look but I think they know who is who with the plastic.

Re: Wally walk
Congrats on license. We now challenge you to carry 24/7 unless 30.06 is posted. With it getting warm it's not as easy but no excuse not to be packin.

Re: Wally walk
Though I am fairly new to the CHL club, since plastic day I have done a couple of Wally Walks, several Academy Ambles and a Target Tour. I have yet to be in the presense of a LEO, but have been around a few security people. That I could tell, no one has really gave me so much as a second glance. When I carry my 9MM, I carry OWB in a Fobus paddle holster or a leather belt holster from Don Hume. I like the leather better. If I carry the revolver, it is usually in a cheap Uncle Mike's in my left front pocket. I have noticed that there are a lot of gentlemen that are smartly dressed in the ever popular Hawaiian shirt, but I have yet to be able to determine if they are armed.
