I must confess. I’m so ashamed!

Post by Ol Zeke »

I must confess. I’m so ashamed.
I… I’ve…. I’ve been cheating! Cheating on my 1911’s!
I know… it’s reprehensible! :cryin
I’ve been carrying a … this is so hard to say… a GLOCK! :???:
I don’t want my 1911’s to leave me but, this is not just a fling. I’m completely smitten! I’m hooked! Head over heels for the whole “dishwasher safe” thing!
I’ve been reduced to, only carrying my GSR to Church and other dress occasions and my Kimber only at night (it has laser grips). But even at those times I…. I have a Glock for backup! :nono:
This is horrible! I don’t know what to do?

I wonder if anyone else, on this forum, has had a similar experience? If so, how did you deal with the guilt? :headscratch

I had a similar fall when the I encountered some of the first Glocks to hit our shores. I too fell under their sway and deserted my 1911 for their exotic siren song.

Later, in the cold, hard light of day, I came to my senses, saw what I had so foolishly cast aside, and realized the huge mistake I had made. I confessed my sins, returned to my 1911 true love, begged forgiveness, and never strayed again.

Since that time, my Glocks and I have remained friends, but we've kept our relationship strictly platonic.

I changed after many years because I decided I did not want to remember the thumb safety anymore. I went to a H&K compact and a M&P compact.

To get over the guilt I ate a Resse Peanut Butter Cup and then drunk a diet coke to even out the sugar thing.

I know this is all tongue in cheek and funny buy you guys, and I mean everyone on this forum who carries, need to keep your carry piece the one you practice with the most and can operate under stress without having to think. That includes the holster style.

I have a nice little pistol collection and I enjoy taking them all out from time to time. BUT, I only carry one. Actually, I have two of the same model; that being a full size Beretta Cougar and a Mini.

That’s the bad boy that when the buzzer sounds, I can pull out from under my shirt and zap the X at 5 yards or less in under a 1.5 seconds the first time, and every time I try.

If I try that with any of my others, I’ll be lucky if I even hit center mass because I’m fumbling around, pulling against the thumb break (I could never train myself to remember to release the snap under pressure) adjusting my grip angle, release a safety??? Expecting a double action pull and getting a striker fired pull, whatever…… It all affects accuracy and under pressure, we all will perform like we’ve practiced and not even remember the event.

The trick for me is that my muscle memory after so many years is engrained to those Cougars that I literally don’t have to even think about what it takes to present to the target. Getting a steady bead on target through the trigger pull is really the only thing my mind has to concentrate on.

Oops, I hijacked.

The only way to redemption is to give me the glock. Otherwise you will fall into the darkside and have to give me all your 1911's :)

I fear it’s too late…. I’ve been buying them baubles like extended slide releases and + mag extensions. I’ve even been doing special favors for them like a 3.5 lb trigger pull!

I hide the Glock in the range bag, when someone else drives up at the range (until I find out what they’re shootin’).

Your situation is much like my father in law. Ever since i even started dating his daughter before we were married it was, "you and those glocks...blah blah blah". He never would give me a break about glock. He carries a Colt Defender. He always referenced it as a real gun and mine was plastic. Now i do not dispute I loved his gun but i carry glock for its practical application for day to day carry. I learned to shoot with my glock and i fully find them to be very reliable, rugged, and simplistic to operate. I explained all this to him but he still made fun of my glocks. I understand some people love their 1911s, and i think they are great guns, I just do not feel comfortable enough with them for me to carry because i am not use to them. HE STILL PERSISTED TO MAKE FUN OF MY GLOCKS LOL.

All until one day. I was selling a glock 30 for a reasonable price last year. Well he picked it up from me trying to get a deal so he could flip it for a little more. Well guess what, he never sold it. In fact, i started to notice a change in his behavior. When ever he comes to visit guess what gun is with him. Yup my old friend. SO i finally asked him about it. Well seems like he took a liking to my old pistol but did not want to admit the fact. Not only does he like it, he went out and bought his girl friend a glock 27.
SO some one changed their tune. He use to tease me about my gun but now look who is carrying my old glock.: Ohh and don't worry, every time he comes down to visit i make sure to ask, "SO what pistol did you bring with you?". Of course i know the answer. SO then make sure to bug him about it to get my revenge. "rlol"

Carry the gun you're most comfortable with. There's no reason to feel ashamed for not carrying a 1911 it's a gun not a wife.

I own 1911 pistols. I carry an S&W M&P full size 40. Why? It feels right, no manual safeties, 15 + 1 of .40 S&W JHP ammo, fully loaded it isn't perceptibly heavier than a fully loaded all steel 1911 and I shoot it really well. The 1911s are more "Accurate" but the M&P is hot on their heels and is a pull, point, and shoot gun. I look at a gun as a survival tool not a fashion accessory or a "Man badge" - - - use the tool that will make your job easier.
