I LOVE fried chicken and it is KFC crispy for me. Not the original, the crispy. Used to like Popeye's til I got some spoiled wings. :ack:

For franchise places, I vote for Popeye's Spicy.

Is that Frenchy's place around Houston? I noticed you mentioned Michael Berry and I assume there isn't more than one of those guys around.

Yes, apparently they have several places around Houston. The owner died recently and I guess that's what prompted MB to talk about it. He went on and on for like 10 mins about how it was the best fried chicken around.

Here's their web site: http://www.frenchyschicken.com/

p.s. I like Popeye's Spicy too!

The original Babe's Chicken Dinner House in Roanoke, Texas.

Accept no substitutes. Also, mourn for the people who order the chicken fried steak instead. They just don't understand that good chicken fried steak is a commodity in Texas - but chicken like that - well - you need to visit and you'll understand.
Thanks fickman!

Most every one of you should be ashamed of yourself..........

The BEST fried chicken I have ever had was made by my grandmother for Sunday dinners. Infact this thread reminded me of it and I will be making it for my kids this Sunday so they realize that you can make it.

Of course when my grandmother said we were having chicken......that was my que that I was to catch a chicken......kill the chicken.....clean the chicken......butcher the chicken.......and bring her chicken ready to cook. I will not make my kids do that.........only because I do not have any live chickens..... :evil2:

No, it's on the northeast side of downtown inside the loop.
If you go there, go armed and don't go after dark.
On second thought, you might want to avoid it all together.

Well, it's pretty tasty and served with waffles.
But the neighborhood can be frightening for some who are not accustomed such areas.
My routine is get in, don't make too much eye contact, and get out quick.

The only way I ever saw my grandmother cook chicken was boiling it. :cryin
