Back in School

Post by USA1 »

...And I like it!

I've decided to further my education and have been attending classes at my local college for about two weeks now.
The thought of going back to school at my age (43) was a little scary. I pictured myself sitting in class amongst kids that are half my age. To my relief there are many people who are in the same age range as me.

I'm starting with all the basics first..Language skills (reading and writing), Social studies, Science, and Math.

The first day was not easy. You forget a lot in 25 years.
Now after a couple of weeks of knocking the cobwebs off the ole peanut, it's all coming back.

I'm actually enjoying it and look forward to class now...who'da thought?

The only thing is I have to leave my gun at home. :cryin I'm so accustomed to having it with me that the first couple of days I headed into class with it on me. I had to go back and lock it in the truck. Now I just leave it at home. ;-)

The moral of the story..It's never too late to learn. Oh, and don't take a gun into school. :???:

Welcome to the club! I didn't finish my Bachelors until I was 42 (Univ of Houston - Downtown) and my Masters until I was...older. School is fun and you will probably notice that you aren't the oldest student around.

Yeah, so far I've noticed one person older than me. But I'll keep looking. ;-)

This will be semester 3 for me. Two classes per semester. Post 9/11 MGIB rocks. Slowly but surely...2 classes at a time....I'll make it.

P.S. Really hoping Campus Carry gets a foothold this year.

You know, I never really gave that much thought until I started back.
Now I always think.."I wish I could (legally) have my gun with me".

I have noticed however that there's a strong Police presence at the school..even though they are Campus Police.

Reminds me of the little blonde girl that I took classes with. We were at lunch one day (at the school) and we got on the subject of the dangers encountered by young women on campus. She reached into her purse and gave me a glance at what looked like the biggest revolver I had ever seen to date and advised me that "I can take care of myself".
I didn't know at the time that there was such a thing as a "Gun-Free Zone", and I don't know if she did or if she cared.

I'll admit that for a brief moment I considered just carrying anyway...who's gonna know?

Then I came to my senses and realized how detrimental it would be if I were to be caught, not to mention how it would negatively impact the CHL cause. So in a way, I'm doing the right thing for us all. ;-)

Congratulations on returning to school.

Who knew you had time to go to school between working
and shopping for new handguns! :-)

An older woman returned to college and some dreamkiller
said to her "Why, you'll be xx years old by the time you get out!"

Her reply: "In nn years, I'll be xx years old, but if I start school
now, I'll have a degree by the time I'm xx years old!" You go, girl.

"I never let school interfere with my education."

*sigh*... yeah same here :waiting: . Except at UH there's not a strong police presence. I get updates about once every other month of an aggravated robbery on the outskirts and sometimes even ON campus in broad daylight.

On the bright side, congratulations, good to see when I get older I'll actually appreciate this whole learning thing ;-)
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson
