I bought two, one black and one brown, from Gunner's Alley made of two layers of bull hide. There's a wait period of about 40 days but you can choose width (1 1/4 up to 1 3/4, color of leather, color and shape of hardware, and number and spacing of holes. They do look more like dress belts than gun belts. What I really like about them is the inside is a natural color so no dye to bleed onto clothing during hot weather.

I bought a black Safariland Plainclothes Belt with a chrome buckle. Safariland makes a lot of duty gear for police officers. I haven't ever owned or tried on any other gunbelt, but I like it, and it supports my Glock 19, no problem. I bought mine from Optics Planet. You have to be kind of careful with Optics Planet - they don't like to mention that things are out of stock and will put your order on backorder without telling you :eek6. It's a good idea to call them to verify that the item is actually in stock before actually placing an order.

My belt was on back order for a couple months before I got it, iirc. It was totally worth the wait, though, because it was DIRT CHEAP (and,well, because I didn't have my CHL yet at the time).
They are currently on sale for $26.36, not including shipping at opticsplanet.com. Note that there are many other models/variations - this is just the exact belt that I got.

Prodefense in Webster has 5.11 and Blackhawk in black or brown. I got a brown Blackhawk 34 and I have no complaints.

I have three 5.11 belts and they are awesome. Of course I got mine free so the price was right too, "rlol" but that being said they are great belts and I would pay for them in the heartbeat.

You are totally correct to grab a good gun belt, to me it made carrying so much easier and more comfortable, plus it gives a good platform for the draw. (meaning the belt stays put when the gun is drawn, it doesn't rise up with the holster/gun).

:iagree: These belts are top notch quality. Alittle on the expensive side but you definitely see the added value.

I've never seen this mentioned on the forum, so I figured I might as well throw it out there. I wear cloth belts with two big D-clips (or metal rectangles) on the end that you wrap the belt through to secure it. Got one with a pair of shorts and bought another at Wal-Mart for $10. Granted, I've never tried a "real" gun belt, but I've never felt a need to. The cloth belts let me adjust them to exactly where I want them to be and work perfectly for me with a Crossbreed and a full-sized Px4.

I'd suggest getting a less flexible one, since I've seen some that are about as solid as a t-shirt. Mine feels like it was soaked in paper mache and allowed to dry, so pretty stiff. Might just be what someone needs if a regular gun belt isn't working.

Wow they have a lot to choose from. Is there much of a difference between bullhide and horse hide and cow hide?
I'll have to let someone else chime in on this one. I only have their Bullhide ones.
I'm no expert, but do own a bullhide beltman belt in brown and HIGHLY recommend it. This belt is my "need to look presentable" belt when I carry with my shirt tucked in (using a Crossbreed Supertuck holster, or just pocket carrying). If not tucking in your shirt, doesn't matter what the belt looks like because no one should see it anyway (should be concealed by your cover garment).

As to the differences in hides, I chose bullhide because it's supposed to be a bit stiffer and more rugged than cowhide or horsehide. And it certainly better than my cowhide 5.11 Tactical belts, which wear very quickly (but I use them covered, so don't really care). My bullhide beltman has the velcro on inside, but no kydex insert and is plenty stiff for most guns. My 5.11 leather belts DO have a kydex insert and are stiffer overall. Also the 1.75-inch width 5.11 Tactical web belt has a kydex insert and is very stiff - also since it's not leather, I can wear it when I know I'll be outside sweating a lot and/or on water (boating, fishing etc) or at an amusement park or "splash" park with my kids where there is a good chance I could get wet.

Anyway, more info FYI ... viewtopic.php?f=23&t=31517&hilit=+beltman" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
According to http://www.thebeltman.net/horse.htm, horse hide is the stiffest belt they make. They recommend not getting the kydex insert if you get the velcro (otherwise it will be too stiff). I went with the horse hide since I carry a full size (albeit an aluminum framed) 1911 and wanted a stiffer belt. The information is scattered around on the pages for each type of leather - I wish they'd add a section on their FAQ.
