Wisconsin DA Says Gun Laws Unconstitutional

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the guy could ultimately lose his job over this stance. Some anti group is going to try to have him removed from office ....

From what I am reading on other websites, Wisconsin has been moving the right direction for some time now, so I think he will be OK. It's not like one of Chicago's DAs suddenly piped up with this (altho that would be hysterical --- until the guy ended up floating in the harbor).

I have not personally verified the following, but here is what I understand from reading other forum: WI is an open carry state, but a few LEs arrested people for Disorderly Conduct in the past. The previous Repub AG issued an opionion/order/whatever AGs issue, that essentially said, "Stop it." There was a prosecution of a barkeeper who carried a gun with him when he took his receipts to the bank -- this is apparently what prompted this DA to run (he thought it was stupid, and note the example in his letter is about a barkeeper). The legislature twice passed bipartisan concealed carry (shall issue, I think) laws, which were vetoed by the Dem Governor. His vetoes were sustained by one or two votes after some armtwisting. So the thinking is, once he is out at the end of this year, hopefully his replacement will not veto, or at least there will be enough legislators with backbone to override any vetoes.

Anyway, I think this guy will be OK. At least famous.

This, I think, is a healthy reminder and a challenge to all of us.

OTOH, I don't think many of these "elitists" can or will be convinced of anything. So rather, I would say that the people we need to convince are the decent, but misguided, voters who mistakenly put these elitists in office.

Gilberg said his department will continue to issue citations under city ordinances and seize weapons from people who may think that they can now carry concealed weapons in Black River Falls with impunity.

Gilberg said he, too, applauded the decision in McDonald vs. Chicago, but didn't believe its intent was to "allow a Wild West atmosphere in our cities and towns."

So, a group of cops is going to start seizing property from people under no authority of law and with no judicial backing... hmm. I suppose it's best that I'm not in that county, after all, because I wouldn't be too forgiving to an armed gang just stealing property because they think they can.
