Sig P220 .45 help
I purchased a sig p220 .45 from cabela's. This is my second sig. I am trying to find out exactly which model it is. I thought it was a German made sig. Come to find out it is not. So I am trying to see if I over paid for it. It is a sig model p220 .45 cal. Serial number starts with G338. Any info would be appreciated.
Re: Sig P220 .45 help
Is this a new Sig? They are expensive and prices vary dependent upon which variant you get. You might check the classified on the Sig Forum for prices.
A basic P220 might cost 800-900 new, dependent upon where you get it.

Re: Sig P220 .45 help
I hate to bring bad news, if you bought it from Cabella's you over paid for it, same with Bass Pro..... Even when they have "sales" many smaller gun shops beat their prices on a regular basis. The Sig Forum is a great place to do some research, do a search their for serial numbers and a post will come up as to how to determine the production years.

There are many variant of the Sig P220. We'd need a bit more info then the serial number to tell you which one you have.
Don't play the head game of did you pay to much though, you'll just get buyer's remorse. Go out and shoot the pistol. I'll bet you'll like it. Besides, if you shoot enough the pistol is the cheap part, ammo is the expensive part.

Where else are Sigs made besides Germany?
Re: Sig P220 .45 help
Exeter, NH. Only a handful of Sigs are fully made in Germany these days.danpaw wrote:Where else are Sigs made besides Germany?

Are Glocks made in Austria or Smyrna Ga. ?
Re: Sig P220 .45 help
I've shot one of the old German ones, and one of the new ones with the Exeter NH slide on a German frame, both in the same range trip. They were both flawless.

Another good source is topgunsupply.com. I am not advertising for them, I have had a lot of good luck with them. Also check Gunbroker.com for market price comparisons.

Re: Sig P220 .45 help
I have done a lot of research on this. I just can not pin it down. No it was not new. I thought the serial number would date the gun. Maybe I am wrong, but that was the help I am looking for. If someone who really knows sig's could be specific in the information they need. I could try to supply the answers. It does not have the spur hammer. It does not have a rail upfront. So if you can help please be very specific in the information you need. I am going to try to post a pic. I also tried to join the sig forum, but they do not allow hotmail for an internet address. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Sig P220 .45 help
Looks like a standard pre-rail P220 to me. Relying on my less-than-perfect memory, I believe Sig quit importing those at the end of '05 or '06 and switched to the N.H. assembled version with a rail. At that time they also changed the "Made in Germany" stamp on the slide to indicate the change. Regardless of the date, you have a great gun.
Sig will provide a date of manufacture certificate for a processing fee. 603-772-2302
In case it is of interest, I found the following on another website (accuracy not verified):
Instead of the sn, look for when it was proof tested. The majority of German made SIG models have the symbols located on the underside of the slide just forward of the front of the frame. You will normally find three proof marks. 1. An ornamental crown with an N beneath it indicating proof with smokeless (nitrocellulose) powder. The second looks like a "squished 8-legged 2-pincered bug". This is the proof mark for the Kiel, Germany proofhouse. The third is two letters that tell you when it was proof tested. HK would be 1979, JJ would be 1988, AA would be 2000, etc.
SIG-Proofmark letters.
A 0, B 1, C 2, D 3, E 4, F 5, G 6, H 7, J 8, K 9
