What to Do...What to Do?

Post by billfromtx »

Question?

Driving from South Texas to North Florida tomorrow for work. I will be staying at a Holiday Inn and working aboard a Naval Base!
The Navy bases allows no carrying (of course)...Which means I would have to leave my CCW at the Hotel (which has no safes in the roon, I called)
I guess my options are:
1. Leave my CCW in my hotel room and worry about it getting stolen by the room cleaners!
2. Just leave my CCW in Texas and go unarmed..which I DON'T like...
3. Take it aboard the base and risk it...which I don't like, even more...

anybody have a better option for a brother...

Bring your own safe for the room?
Can you stay at a different Hotel, one with a room safe?

I dunno, these are just things I've come up with.

Thanks

We are locked into this Hotel...

I could buy a pistol safe but I would have to chain IT down to something?

Hotels usually bolt the TV's down pretty good, I guess so no one steals them? You can use that to secure yours as well :smilelol5:
Some even bolt down the Remote Control!

Just put it under your pillow. We all know the room cleaners in hotels never look there.

Yes, but sometimes apparently the Guests forget to look there after they place it as well! :smilelol5:

Does the naval base have a procedure for checking weapons at the security checkpoint? You may want to check with them as this may be an option.

Edit to say, never mind I did a google search and this option doesn't end well.

Storing it in the hotel safe is another option.

:iagree: That would be MY suggestion. Might want to check with them first to avoid any confusion.

I called them and they said they had a customer security box they could lock up in the office... :headscratch

Not sure about busting out my CCW and giving to them. I'll check on that option.

might just stop by bass pro shop in Baton Rouge and by me a pistol safe.

Well I sure wouldn't hand it to them in a baggy!

I was thinking about something along this line to hand to them:

Something lockable.

how about having a local range store it for you. I would think a local place would do it.

A quality gun case or lockbox of some kind to which you can attach steel cable should work fine. I've left guns in such containers in hotels before and never had problems.

What works really well, but is a bit expensive than a $30 "Secure It" or similar pistol lockbox, is a Pelican case with a large steel cable (like you'd use to lock up a bicycle) and use some heavy duty padlocks which lock the Pelican case and secure the cable to the case. Just wrap the cable around anything heavy and/or permanently bolted down (like the TV), the bed frame even works in a pinch. Heck, if you wrap it tightly enough you can secure it around the toilet. I've even wrapped it around the steel guard rail of an upstairs balcony and left it outside (Pelican cases are airtight/watertight).

This is not a quick-access setup. But it's great for when you're gone.

I've used Pelican cases in the past to secure $10,000 worth of camera equipment in hotel rooms, the the trunk of my car etc. The big ones are very expensive, but you can buy one big enough for a handgun for about $50. Academy even sells them - check in the boating department for bright yellow ones or in the regular gun case aisle they might have some black ones. I've also seen them at Fry's Electronics, and of course any camera/photography store will carry them.

I put the DO NOT DISTURB sign out and tell them at the front desk that I will ask for towels occasionally and that I want no one in my room except me.
