Broad Daylight bank robbery in Alvin

Post by canvasbck »

Someone let me know if this has already been posted and I will delete.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hea ... 17530.html

Cliff notes:
20 something goes into a bank at 2:30 on a Monday afternoon with no attempt to conceal his identity other than a ball cap.
BG slides the teller a note stating that he is robbing the bank. Teller asks him if this is serious. BG lifts shirt, revealing a hnadgun in his wasteband. Teller gives the bad guy $3900 (Chronicle didn't report the amount, that was in the Facts). Bad guy makes his getaway on a MOUNTAIN BIKE!!! The bike is later found 4 blocks north of the bank on Gordon Street, anyone familiar with Alvin knows that would put the BG in the vicinity of the Alvin Police Department when he abandoned the bicycle.

This bank is directly across the street from the Busy Bee Cafe. I eat breakfast at the Busy Bee every weekend and I know quite a few other CHLers that frequent the restaraunt.

Is it a crime to hand him a bag with a flash bang on a 1-minute timer? :clapping:

Just a note on the title of the thread:

The mountain bike might not have been a bit questionable for a getaway vehicle (although it seemed to have served its purpose in this case), but the BG's choice of daylight timing for his crime is kinda the default. There's no point in trying to stick up a bank after dark because the doors are locked and there's nobody there to hand you money.

Some years ago I read that the average bank
robbery only netted $1500. I don't remember
the source.

So if this guy got $3900 he did better than most.
