I keep forgetting to check for 30.06

Post by terryg »

So, I have only been carrying for a week now. And except for my drive to and from work everyday (where I can't carry in the parking lot), I have been carrying nearly 100% of the time. But in the past few days, I find myself in a store I haven't been in before and I totally forgot to check for postings.

Now granted, this is Alvin, other other Alvinites such as canvasbck, have already scrubbed the town pretty well before me. The YMCA might be the only posted business - and even it's postings are probably not valid.

But is it still concerning that scanning the door only stayed in my habit pattern for a few days before being forgotten? I was in both Blockbuster and a local antique store / auction house. Both times I remembered while in the store and went back toward the front door just to check. :headscratch

The good thing though, is the sign should be large enough to stand out, and not hidden.
As the law (if I remember right) says it has to be in plain view.
With the 1 inch (minimum) lettering in English and Spanish, it is a large sign to where it should be obvious.

Other than at Gun Shows, I have never seen the 30.06 posted anywhere I have gone.

I tend to forget to check for 30.06 signs if I forget I'm carrying. My LCP in a pocket holster is often forgotten unless it's uncomfortably, whereas a larger pistol IWB keeps reminding me of its presence. Which often means I'll actively look for 30.06 signs before I enter.

One thing I noticed when I first encountered a real 30.06 sign is that they have to be BIG to be valid. I think that a valid sign would be hard NOT to notice! The one I ran across was at the Pawn shop at Clay Road and FM 1960. I stopped by there to take a look at their guns. I promptly just backed out and drove off to visit the other Pawn shops instead. I guess I should go check texas3006.com and see if they are listed there.

The one valid sign I've seen (at the entrance to Harris Methodist SW hospital in FW) was so large you couldn't miss it. The only way you might miss this it would be if you were visiting with someone else or on the cell phone and just didn't look at the door.

I never check. the law says that the sign has to be "posted in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public." If I have to go hunting for it, then it is hardly "conspicuous" or "clearly visible" now, is it?
