My opinion has changed over the years about what I THINK I will do. My plan is to escape and avoid any use of my weapon at all. That is the smartest and most logical thing to do for a CHL holder. The thing is that once I see innocent people being hurt and knowing that more will be hurt unless I act I can't say. I know I want my loved ones out of the way but after that will I turn around and go back?

I don't know what I am going to do in any given situation because I don't know the full details of that situation. Will fear overtake me and I run or will I fight? Don't know until it happens. My opinion is that many of us continue to come here so we can try to decide what we will do as well as what is best to do NOW before we are put in the situation. It may seem odd but one posters argument might have me thinking one way in one post and another way in another post. We must be fluid if we are ever forced into a situation where we have to decide or we may make mistakes. In order to properly do that we have to have a foundation of thinking gained by other peoples thoughts as well as our own opinions and experiences. I think part of what we are doing on this board is preparing that foundation for that decision of shoot or not to shoot. If I knew exactly what was going to happen and what I was going to do I wouldn't bother with spending time reading what other people have to say.

Not really. Metaphorically speaking, a vaccine may or may not protect you once exposed. The virus will propagate itself throughout the population regardless of the vaccinated. It does not cease to be a threat. It does not care who it victimizes. Stopping the virus dead in it's tracks would be the ultimate goal. I can only hope that someone holding a cure is there when it's my family members who are at the mercy of a ruthless and murderous virus.

My CHL is not a Batman license nor am I a vigilante or a LEO looking for evildoers or scofflaws. My CHL allows me to carry a concealed weapon in certain locations for the protection of me and mine should the need arise.

As defined, "concealed weapon" means "concealed weapon" and I sincerely hope that the need to employ my legal CCW never arises.

Why do I carry? Because I legally can. I want the ability to protect myself and family. I have seen a few situations that really made me appreciate having a CHL. But thank God I never had to draw my weapon.

I really want to thank everyone who has posted opinions on this subject. As a new holder of a CHL, I'm heavily on the fence about this! I'm learning a lot from the posts in this thread and thinking hard about things. TAM's post has expressed how I feel the closest.

But if rendering such aid places my family (first) and me (second) in extreme danger, then I might not because my primary responsibility is first to those whom I love, and secondarily to anyone else after that.

I'm not a vigilante and I'm certainly not a hero and don't want to be one! Like most, I hope I never have to employ my weapon ever! Mine and my families lives are first and foremost. Every scenario has a huge number of variables. I still believe that if I found myself in a situation where my family is safe, innocent bystanders are safe, and I'm relatively certain that I'm safe, I would engage a BG, in the act of threatening deadly harm, in order to stop him from hurting others. If those others were my family out and about and under the threat of deadly harm, I would hope that if someone was there with a CHL that they would help them.

Sadly, in these modern times, if you did shoot and saved a persons life, you would likely be sued to bankruptcy by the 'person' for scaring them and trauma, etc, etc.
