Couple CHL Questions

Post by joelamosobadiah »

Hello all,
I took my CHL class about 6 months ago. Due to some personal things and work, I wasn't able to get everything together and mailed off at the time. Now I'm at a point where I'm trying to get everything done.
When I went to schedule my fingerprints through the L1 Site it's giving me an error message saying that my application number is wrong and I need to apply via mail or online before I can obtain fingerprints.

My main questions is, can I (should I) just apply and pay online, then when I get that application number, get my fingerprints? I have a complete paper packet, but if I can just do it online, that would be much easier. I just thought I had everything in order. Now I just want to make sure I don't lose that money and get this done FAST.

Thanks! :patriot:

Yes, do it online.
You can apply, and pay today and schedule your fingerprints immediately as well.
Even if you have already filled out the form, in ink, redo it. It is much easier, but it also looks for missing information, just in case you did not fill in something on the hard copy.

Online also eliminates the need to send in a lot of the notarized documents that you are probably sitting on, so less that they have to manually review on hard forms.

I would just go to the local PD and get paper prints and mail it in. The time difference is only a week or so. If you do go online and pay you just need to send in your TR100 and your photos you still have to deal with the USPS.

I took the class in October of last year. Finally did the online application the end of May & sent in only what was printed on the checklist, including the photos and fingerprint cards from the class.

From the date DPS received my package to the time I received the card, it only took 40 days. YMMV

Do it online, definitely. Can't tell you how many times the local PD screwed up my paper prints (twice on one application, a real pain).

You can go to the local sheriffs office of PD, here in San Angelo the fee for electronic prints is $10.
