All isnt lost...

Post by DONT TREAD ON ME »

So I have been in one of those rough spots in life for a while now. Things just have not been going well on all fronts. Its been really frustrating. Life at home is not good, work seems to be going nowhere and every time I turn around there is another killing/rape/kidnapping/obama on the news.

I decide that today would be a great day to go to the range and just escape reality and throw some lead down range through my favorite pistol...my 1911!

I get out there and there is an older gentleman and his 16 yr old grandson shooting a Ruger 22 and an older Springfield 1911.

I start shooting a lil bit and the older gentleman compliments me on my grouping. We get to talking and I find out he is a Korean War Vet and they are just out enjoying the day.

We start talking about the 1911 (that was his issued side arm in the service) and we talk about what we both did to our and what we like on them. His grandson asks me if I have any pointers for him as he is landing his rounds all over the board. I talk to him about his stance and grip and then I teach him to shoot 3 rounds at a time and how to read where they land to find out if he is limp wristing and/or if he is pulling left or right.

He starts shooting again and his grouping is much tighter...a couple rounds touching each other, he was very excited. The older gentleman and I continue to talk guns and what not.

We continue to shoot and talk for an hour and a half or so.

This was the best day I have had in a long time. To see this young man actually want to hang out with his grandfather and them enjoying each others company was just awesome.

It made me think that maybe there is hope afterall.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our worries and whats going on in the world that we
forget, or take for granted the simple pleasures that are around us if we only look for them.

As they say..Stop and smell the roses. ;-)

That's so funny! (the obama part not the other stuff).

I'll bet that "kid" remembers you for the rest of his life. It was cool of you to take the time and help improve his shooting skills.

What a heart warming story! Almost brought a tear to my eye.

I can hardly wait until my grandkiddos are old enough to take to the range and introduce to shooting!

The look on his face when he started over and had some holes touching was worth it. He and his grandfather were both very excited over his shooting after that.

His grandfather actually came up and told me how his grandson killed two rattlesnakes at his house in 3 days...he was so proud of him, it was nice to witness it all.
