question about certified mail?

Post by robert0550 »

Not sure if this is the correct spot for this but I mailed my packet Thursday and this afternoon I get an email showing it was delivered but notice left?
Service Type: Certified

Shipment Activity Location Date &
Time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notice Left AUSTIN TX 78761
10/21/06 1:14pm

Arrival at Unit AUSTIN TX 78752
10/21/06 12:58pm

Acceptance ROANOKE TX 76262
10/19/06 11:36am

Is this Normal that they leave them a notice or did I use the wrong service type? Guess I am just a little nervous they will not sign for it and it will get sent back or lost.

Thanks for any input

One of the other guys will be the authority here but I would say it was a valid delivery receipt. keep it. Keep It. KEEP IT. Even tohough it is not the one most of us use.
I use the signed & delivery confirmation. Cost about $5.00.

Don't let this get you down.
1. You have a receipt.
2. This may be something they have started & you will get the signed, dated, little green receipt in the mail Wed or Thurs. I think mine took about 4 days in the mail to get here AFTER they signed it.
Without me going back & looking; is this 1st time or renewal?
We will keep you company while this is sorted out.

You should be fine.

FWIW Registered Mail is the most secure and reliable- its what I use for all sensitive documents - including the CHL. End to end physical security.

Thanks for the reassuring replys, this was my first time longtooth.
I actually didnt use the green label, I opted for the certified with electronic return receipt. which should tell me within minutes of them signing it.

My question is, I thought this was going to a PO BOX from which the DPS would pick it up at the post office is that correct? Is that how they normally do that.

I don't think they have to pick it up at the Post Office. They are delivered to the building. If they had to pick it up there is no telling how long they would be at th P/O. Nobody would "have time to go today."

Monday you can get the best answer from your local P/O. We may have someone here that is an employee.

If you check the status later today, you will probably see a DELIVERY notification. I think the NOTICE LEFT means there was no one there to sign for the package. I saw the same thing last week when I sent two packets off.

I got word from the postal office and because the attempted on Saturday they will not make another attempt with Certified mail. the reciever has the option of rescheduling delivery or picking it up.

I called DPS 512-424-7293 and spoke to a very nice lady who told me they do not pick them up and it will be sent back to me and I can resend it again.

So I am guessing if you ship something certified make sure it will deliver monday through Friday cause according to my local Post Office they only try once.

can someone verify something different.

Sounds like junk to me - I sent something via Registered mail(even more secure than Certified) and they had to attempt twice before being successful. I don't see why they wouldn't attempt a second time with Certified.

Our law firm sends a bunch of Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested letters. Although we have a good number returned "unclaimed," they always indicate multiple delivery attempts (usually 3) were made before the mail was returned.

With PO Boxes, however, I thought they just put the notice of a CMRR letter in the box and you have to go to the window to pick it up. As I recall, the DPS address on their envelope is a PO Box, so it would seem someone is going to have to pick up the mail anyway.

I imagine they get their mail in a bag, then sort it when they get back to the office.

But yeah... if there was a notice in the bag, then the person making the mail run should get it the next day.
