Pro-CHL sentiment show: Mon,8/2/10,90.1 FM Dallas "Think"

Post by surprise_i'm_armed »

Forum friends and visitors:

Ms. Krys (say "Chris") Boyd is the host of a 2 hour discussion
show on KERA-FM, 90.1 FM, in Dallas. Her show's title is "Think".

Her show runs from Noon-2 PM, Central Time, Monday through
Thursday. She has 1 guest for the 1st hour, then a different guest
for the 2nd hour.

This Monday, 8/2/10, she is going to discuss the pro-CHL sentiment
in the US, and how it has become popular in a short period of time.

I did not catch her guest's name. Also, I'm not sure if the CHL show
will be in the Noon-1 PM hour, or the 1-2 PM hour.

I did some browsing on KERA.org/Think and did not easily find what
I was looking for.

This should be a great show. She'll be preaching to the choir, and I
look forward to catching it.

There may be up to 3 ways to catch this show:
1. Live on KERA-FM, 90.1 FM, Dallas.
2. Live on the Internet. http://www.kera.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3. Podcast for later listening.

It would be great if some of us could listen to this show, then chat about
it on this thread.

This should be a great program to listen to:

"Monday, 8/02
Noon: What's behind the rapid recent growth of the concealed and open-carry handgun movements? We'll talk this hour with Dan Baum, Harper's Magazine contributor about his August issue cover story "Happiness Is A Worn Gun: My Concealed Weapon and Me." "

http://www.kera.org/radio/think/upcoming.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As this is a network feed from NPR, I'd think that all public radio stations throughout the state will broadcast this program at the same time.....no matter where you live in Texas.

For the DFW folks there are repeat airings for this program:
"Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 p.m., KERA 90.1
Friday, 7:30 p.m., KERA 13
Repeat Airings:
Sunday at 11:30 a.m., Monday at 10:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. on KERA Television
Sunday at 5 p.m. on KERA Radio "

(not sure what the TV portion is about though) :headscratch

That Harper's magazine article is pretty good. (relatively speaking)

Only a few winces when reading it.

I listened to most of this show, I considered it poor and self centered only to serve his personal interests in trying to sell books.

I read the article at Borders Bookstore. It seems a liberal, not anti-gun, but trying to walk through the minefields of Antis and Pros without being biased to either side. I came to conclusion, that at the end he sided with pro guns.
The only issue is that one major theme of the Article is the implying that happiness and inspiration only do take place in "white condition". In Other words, being at peace with oneself should not be restricted to the Antis.

Although I generally think that the guest on the show was
pro-CHL, he isn't as heartily pro-2A as most of us here.

What I took issue with is his contention that leaving the store with
a new gun that doesn't have a trigger lock is dangerous.

He also contended that leaving loaded guns lying around the house is
idiotic. Hey, if you don't have any kids, it's not that big a deal.

An interesting point that he made is that guns have a certain appeal to
men from the viewpoint that a handgun is a finely engineered machine,
designed to last for many years, and that holding a handgun is very satisfying.

I was going to post the link to his full article in Harper's magazine, but you have
to subscribe in order to get the article online.
