Texas Tactical between Austin and SanAntonio
Looks like this range is closing down. A range popular for local IPSC, IDPA matches is facing legal problems. The closure is being initiated by Hays County and the new landowners, I just recently found out about this place and went there twice and it was one of the best experiences of my shooting life. Very considerate and safety minded people. I guess they are looking for a new location, though.
Really? I shot an IDPA match there just about a month ago... And I agree it was a great place to shoot. I wonder if they will move it north a bit (hopes).
I don't see anything about it on their website though.

Mike's still probably too depressed to update the website. Here's a link to a thread with more information:

Ya I had just found out about this place and being in Austin whenever I had time I was going to try going down there and checking it out.
Sad news that it closed due to the reasons it closed too.
I wish the organizers luck in finding a new place if they are still into doing this.
Posting to show support for a future location, never know who might read.

I shot with them for a while until a shoulder injury sidelined me . . . just when I'm preparing to get into it again, this happens. <expletive deleted>
I know it's too much to hope for, but it would be good if they were to somehow acquire Crazy Richard's range . . .

"Crazy Richard's" is formally known as Hill Country Rifle Range, on Hamilton Pool Road, several miles south of 71. The proprietor has some . . . odd . . . ideas about conspiracies, the biblical End Times, the 47 pounds of plutonium the government put on Jupiter, local covens of witches, Satanic influences in the legislature, etc.
But at least, since he got a shave and a haircut, he doesn't look QUITE so much like Charles Manson.

Is this range still open? I heard that it closed a while ago; sold the land to developers.jhutto wrote:Hill Country Rifle Range..... What a nut... I do like the range outdoors and stuff. Sobody let me know if you all are going out. It might be fun to shoot with someone... I think you need to call the range before you go.
I talked to a guy (Richard I guess) a couple of weeks ago on the phone. The range is open and he said to call before going out there. This range is actually located in Dripping Spring on that Hamilton Poole road. He said it cost five bucks to shoot and he sells most common ammo. I am going to try to get out there one of these days. Its closer to me then Red's Indoor Range. I found the number in the book under Hill Country Rifle Range.
