I agree with most hospitals, but M.D. Anderson is owned by the University of Texas and it has UT faculty doctors teaching UT medical students, residents, fellows, etc. It does make a difference with this particular institution.

Hospitals that are not owned by universities are a different matter.

Chas.
How do places like LBJ and Memorial Hermann fit in--virtually all the attending physicians are UT-Houston faculty with lots of UT-H medical students, residents, etc. running around. Same with Ben Taub, Texas Children's, St.Luke's, and the VA (already off-limits as a federal building of course) with BCM faculty, residents, and students.

I know that MD Anderson is unquestionably a school under 46.03 since it is owned by the UT system, but is there any guidance on other teaching hospitals that, while not owned by a school, function as a teaching facility for a medical school?

The answer to this question is not absolutely clear, but I believe an objective reading of the statute leads to only one conclusion. Neither "school" nor "educational institution" are defined in the Penal Code. Thus, we look to the common usage of those terms, neither of which include hospitals. The fact that medical students, residents or fellows are learning something within those buildings does not transform them into a "school" as that term is commonly used, any more than a car becomes a "school" because it is being driven by a student driver.

As you pointed out, M.D. Anderson is unique because it is owned by the University of Texas.

I personally feel that when it comes to Texas gun laws and the interpretation of them I would follow Mr Cotton's advice every time.... He has probably forgotten more than I know about these laws and how they are/could be interpreted and enforced....

honestly i dont think because its owned by UT has anything to do with it.
I work for a medical school and we have plenty of buildings that are not posted at all.
