Hotel Discounts?

Post by pbwalker »

I'm taking my wife to NYC for our 5th Anniversary this October...and thanks to taking a bump here or there, I was able to get two round trip tickets for $150!

Now comes the hotel part. Having grown up in NYC, I never played 'tourist'. And because of that, I never realized just how expensive rooms can be! I've never gone there as a tourist...only for work.

Does anyone work in the hospitality industry that may be able to offer any "buddy" discounts for a fellow CHLer? :thumbs2: Or might you be able to point me to a site / location that offers the best rates? I'm sure I can do better than $300 a night in Midtown.:

I've never been to NYC, but I know it's there. I've had favorable results before by talking directly to the concierge and outright asking for their best deal/package for the chosen time. Of course some will be more helpful than others but unless it's just a very busy time it should be well worth the time required. Of course, YMMV, however. Hope you and the wife have a wonderful trip.

I grew up there too, but left in '62 at age 20 so I can't be of help. I went back for a few days in '93, but stayed out on "Lawn Giland" and road the LIRR into Manhattan each day. Saved some money for shuah. Care to share where in NYC you grew up? And, where did you score those tickets for that price? My wife has been bugging me for years to take her there.

I've had pretty good luck with both hotwire.com and priceline.com - I haven't used them in NYC though. It is a pricey place to stay. Last stay there was a few years ago at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. I thought it was going to be high as well, but the tradeshow that I was there for had special rates/room blocks at the show hotels, so I think the room was $150 a night or so.

I just thought I'd bring this one back again...Priceline is failing me.

Anyone have the hookup? Buddy passes? I'm happy to pay
