Force-on-Force after action reports

Post by Paladin »

Force-on-Force is some of the most practical, realistic training available. The Philip Van Cleave of Virginia Citizens Defense League does an excellent job of capturing the mindset and experience of force-on-force training in these four after action reports:

The Doctor's Office

The Convenience Store

Clearing a room

Hiding

Why in the world would a CHL holder be clearing a convenience store?

I know I am going to get ripped for this but I decided long ago what I will do if I am in a convenience store, restaurant, or other and someone comes in and pulls a gun on the cashier.

If I am close enough I am going to put my pocket gun a couple of inches from the back of his head and pull the trigger two or three times. I won’t wait to see if he intends to shoot someone. But then I don’t know much about tactical situations. ;-)
God Bless America, and please hurry.

what if he worked there, and walked in thinking something was quirky and did not think to call the cops, he rather thought he could clear the store.

Like any other made up scenario, it's real life relationship is limited. When I read that, I wasn't at all thinking about clearing a convenience store but how what was being described related to clearing my own house. Even there, I would do it only if I were inside to start with. If I come home and find someone inside, the LEOs are going to clear it, not me.

If the scenarios did anything, they reminded me that I'm not bulletproof just because I have my own gun in my hand.

Good find! I wonder why the guy in the first pic isn't geared up?

Good reads. Lesson learned by him should pass on to others for similar situations.

Why did I not catch this story, though, in my local news?

Good point. But room clearing is a useful skill for home defense. Imagine you hear a noise at night and need to go check on the kids... or you are not sure that you've had a break in... and need to clear your house.

Glad ya'll liked the articles!

They have some good lessons I paid hundreds of dollars to learn in force-on-force training.

One of the key points of the fourth scenario shows that "barricade" type shooting is a important skill to learn. You have the advantage as a defender, but if you can't shoot well using cover you could still lose.

Thank you for the links. Do you know when the next part will be online? The stories remind us that the world is not as simple as paper targets at the range and marksmanship is only one point of the triangle.

Best part of the story:
After relaying a description of the truck to 911, Potter County sheriff’s deputies pulled over Gary Don Carner, 58, who died in an exchange of gunfire. His 11-year-old captive was able to flee from the pickup and jump into a ditch.

Not sure when part 5 will be available. Probably in a few weeks.
