Another "should there be any problems" question

I have been putting off getting my CHL for way too long and my boss offered to pay for the entire office to take the class, so I am scheduled to do it this weekend. I looked through the forum but didn't see anything on this.

When I was 20, Feb 14 2009 to be exact, I was pulled over and given a ticket for a DUI (a ticket in Texas for minors that have any trace of alcohol in their system but are not over .08). Basically I had had 2 beers and immediately admitted to him that I had had a drink was under 21 so he gave me a DUI, which is a Class C misdemeanor. I was not booked, fingerprinted, or photographed. He just had me call someone to drive me and my truck home. I went to court and the case was dismissed and when I went before the License Revocation judge I got my drivers license suspended for 60 days. After your drivers license is suspended you can get a new one for no cost, but when you renew you have to pay a 250 dollar fine. I was a broke college student, and am now a broke recent graduate, so I have no paid the fine since I am completely fine without paying for it until my drivers license is up for renewal.

Since I was not actually arrested do I need to list it? I am hoping not since it will be next to impossible to get a proof of disposition quickly since I am across state from where I got the ticket. And should the fact that I have not paid a fine, since it is not technically due, effect me at all. I have a good contact within the DPS who could answer this, but I would prefer not to mention this to them unless I absolutely have to because it is quite embarrassing for me.

On an slightly unrelated note, since I am a broke recent college graduate I plan on getting the indigent rate for the cost of the license. I know it says all I need is a tax return showing I made less than the amount listed (which I am well under from when I worked part-time in college) but is the fact that my parents claimed me as a dependent then going to effect my eligibility?

Thanks ahead of time and I look forward to learning much more constructive things on the board than how the biggest screwup in my life is going to continue to effect me and how I can save some money by being broke.

Should be good according to GC §411.172 found here. That's the updated CHL handbook which you should be receiving with your packet. The eligibility section starts on page 4. Disqualifications include Class A and B misdemeanors, felonies, and others but do not include Class C (traffic tickets) or warrants for failure to pay fees for tickets.

Not sure I agree. Concealed carry is a huge responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Not trying to be sour grapes here, but just curious how many of his co-workers have the dedication and commitment to be a responsible and proficient gun-carrying citizen. I am not up on a high horse here. I have been a "gun guy" for over twenty years and I still contemplated getting my CHL for about 5 years before I actually did. I believe everyone should have the right to carry, i just don't believe everyone should. I remember when I took my class, there was a guy there taking the class who came with his brand new gun still in the box. When it came time to qualify, he asked the instructor for help because he hed never fired a gun before. Just my .02, flame away.

I don't think that "the boss" is requiring people to take the course. You can also take the course and get your CHL and not own a gun. To me it's a win-win situation.

It's like a company offering to pay for your college education. Even though it's a great benefit, most don't take advantage of the offer.

I did that with my employee a year and a half ago, but it was the only way I could get her to carry a gun when she's not at the office with me and out by herself.

Second time I've heard of this. A guy in my class (I had lunch with him that day) was there because his boss was paying for it. Some IT company somewhere. I forgot the name. Interesting. He did say he felt a little pressured, but didn't really have a problem with it. I just told him the decision was really his, and not his boss's. I said if he couldn't decide for himself, maybe this wasn't for him.....

My wife and I work together. I call her the "boss" - because she signs my pay check. I make the money and she spends it and gets paid to do so - plus the accounting, paraprofessional work, etc. etc. Plus I sleep with the "boss!" What a deal! It just cost me my life - and I love it.
