I was going tp make a smart-aleck suggestion not to whistle "Marching Through Georgia" to avoid stirring up the locals. But I am reminded by Oldgringo's comment that there aren't that many folks of Georgian descent in Atlanta -- they'd probably think you were humming some SEC fight song.Oldgringo wrote:Alas, I remember when Atlanta was a nice SOUTHERN city with considerate and mannerly inhabitants of SOUTHERN descent.

I was there about a year ago, for a week. I thought the place was kinda nice. People were very friendly and easy to work with. Food was good, but stay away from the barbeque. taint the same thing. No there ever called me a hemorrhoid, I felt mostly safe, but they drove a bit crazy on the freeways for my taste, but people were ok on the other roads.
Edit to add:
I didn't see any no gun signs

A college friend of my brother's didn't show the same level of discretion when he was stopped for speeding some years ago by a Georgia State Trooper.J.R.@A&M wrote:I was going tp make a smart-aleck suggestion not to whistle "Marching Through Georgia" to avoid stirring up the locals. The trooper was extremely polite and highly professional when he explained that the reason for the stop was that the young man had been speeding. The trooper tried to convey that wasn't a good idea by saying, "Nobody speeds through Georgia."
The young man whose mouth was well ahead of his brain responded with, "Sherman did."
That remark earned him a stay as a guest of the state.
