8 people shot in Buffalo

8 people got shot, 4 fatally outside a restaurant at 2:30am in Buffalo, NY last night.
EDIT: fatality count is now up to 5.

This is the area I grew up in, Western NY.

It should be said, that to legally even purchase or own a handgun in NY State, you have to possess a NY Pistol Permit. The process and ability of getting one varies by county. In Western NY, this pretty much requires signoff of a local Chief LEO, Judge, or other 'connection', and they can, and will reject applications for junk reasons. Every individual gun must be registered, and actual Legal Carry of a handgun outside your property is 99.999999% impossible, unless you're the Mayor's Son, the Police Chief's Brother, a famous actor, etc.

In other words, it's barely a step better than Chicago's new crazy laws.

Texas man shot and killed in New York

Post by philip964 »

A Texas man and his bride returned to Buffalo New York to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. He and three others were shot and killed, four others were wounded. The dead included two women. There was an altercation at the bar where the celebration was going on. The bar decided to make everyone leave and as everyone was leaving, the shots were fired by one individual who is under arrest.

One of the bystanders was quoted as saying "this has to stop".

Well New York has one of the strictest handgun laws in the country. It is a "may issue" state. Each hand gun must be registered and permitted even those that you simply keep in your home. Legal concealed carry would be very difficult to obtain.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws have guns or something like that.

MOD EDIT: Merged the two threads together

And apparently just as effective in keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. I idly wonder if the murdered Texan was a CHL holder who was stripped of the right to carry once he crossed the NY state line...

As good as we have it in Texas, CHL wise, keep in
mind that since it was a bar, all of us would have been
disarmed too if this happened in Texas.

Who said it was a bar? The article called it a "restaurant" multiple times.

The OP's 2nd line states that it was a bar.

The altercation was at the bar portion of the restaurant.. the party was in the restaurant proper.

Your right, restaurant. I'm stupid, didn't carefully read my own link. So carry could have been allowed in Texas.
The suspect has had the murder charges dropped as the DA isn't convinced he's the guy. I like that in a DA, being sure. Not a popular stance in this case.

Guy probably will be rearrested. He's still in jail on probation violation anyway.

Oh can't be him. Not lawful for probationers to carry guns.

All these requirements apply only to legally possessed handguns in New York. These are rarely used in crime.

Those who don't choose to obtain and use them within the established legal guidelines have the same extensive list of freedoms as the folks who choose the same option in Chicago, Washington DC, etc. - No application, no fees, no fingerprint or background checks, no NICS check, no permit, no waiting periods, no nothing - only the simple practical requirement that "concealed means concealed."

Like one of the signatures here says, carry 24x7 or guess right.

There is still not a suspect in this unsolved multiple murder case that I could find.

Your memory moves on to the next carnage, and you forget this guy is still out there.

While I was looking for new articles on this crime, I did find that the Buffalo police got the husband who beheaded his third wife. Should mention his name was Muzzammil Hassan and he and his wife founded the local Muslim cable station. No that wouldn't be politically correct.

I will mention that in this case, he sawed off his wife's head.

Can you guess his defense. If you said "Battered husband syndrome" you would be correct.

I admit to being politically challenged, and I've never gotten the hang of political correctness.

I just can't seem to remember if I'm supposed to say that something is what it isn't, or isn't what it is. :biggrinjester:
