Minotaur MTAC won't let go of my Kimber

I bought an MTAC for my Kimber TLE2 because I'd had good luck with it with a smaller (to remain nameless) gun.

The problem is that it's hanging on something. With the holster off, the gun slides out like butter.

When I put the holster on, it hangs.

I had an extended magazine release on it and thought that might be it, but I changed back to the stock on and it wasn't.
I've got the tension screws so loose that one's actually fallen out.

Anyone have similar problems and if so how did you fix it?

I've had that problem with all my leather holsters, including the Minotaur, which is less than half leather.

I've learned to treat a new holster by spraying the pistol with gun oil (I use Breakfree CLP), inserting it into the holster, and letting it sit overnight. I repeat the process the next evening. That seems to fix the problem.

You wouldn't want to directly apply much oil to a leather holster, as it would cause it to lose its shape. This process puts just a little oil on the places where the holster contacts the pistol, to keep it from sticking.

This is a common issue with leather. I treat the inside of a new holster liberally with pure silicone spray until it's wet and work the gun in and out a bunch of times, then leave it in the holster overnight. The gun comes out slick as you like after that. If that doesn't completely cure the problem, I repeat the process. I've never had it fail, and the silicone doesn't soften the leather like various oils and lotions do.

It's always a good idea to check with the manufacturer before doing something like this just to make sure it won't adversely affect either the product or the warranty.

The thing is that his holster is a hybrid (Leather and Kydex) so the suggested solution will not work well, if at all. I use an M-TAC for my XDm pisols and suspect that the Kydex body was formed wrong. Contact Comp-Tac and see what they say before altering the holster.

I never had a problem with my MTAC, although it takes the tension of my belt across the holster while on my waist to affect true weapon retention. By itself, without that tension, the problem is the opposite - the holster doesn't retain the pistol very well, even with the retention adjustment turned all the way tight. But I've never had a pistol hang up in it.

A plastic bag (such as the ones holsters usually come in) work well too. This is how I always break in a new leather holster.

That's what I was thinking. I believe CrossBreed recommends heating the trigger guard area with a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the kydex so you can tighten or loosen the fit.

with both of these statements . This will solve the problem if you heat it up just enough to make the kydex pliable, and then reshape the area that hangs on the gun. Be sure to contact the manufacturer first as it may void the warranty if you do this. Crossbreed Holsters recommend this method and so do I, but some companies might frown upon this method. Give them a call and explain the situation. They will tell you what is best to do for your holster.
