Providing disposition records
Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I just took my class last weekend and am ready to put in my application. Unfortunately, I have 2 arrests on my record. I hate to say that. The first is for DWI/DUI (I was 17 at the time and blew 0.006, but there is a zero tolerance for minors). The second is Class B Criminal Mischief. I was also 17 at the time, and was caught with a group of kids "vadalizing" my principal's house. The latter charges were dismissed. I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out how to disclose this information, what is meant by "certified copy," or even what is meant by disposition? I am 25 now, and have matured greatly. I haven't had so much as a speeding ticket since I was 17. Can I still apply online, or do I need to do the hard copy packet? Also, if I was arrested in the city, would the local police department have the information I need for my packet? Sorry for the long post! I appreciate your help in advance!
Re: Providing disposition records
For the vandalism, you say the charges were dropped, were you convicted of either charge, or just arrested?

bluewavesix - neither of your offenses will disqualify you for a CHL, but you do need to list them on the application.
By "disposition" they mean the paperwork that shows the outcome of your case. Generally, you can get your paperwork from the county criminal court clerk in the county where you were arrested. Even if the charges were dismissed, you need that dismissal paperwork too. If the county clerk's office does not have it, they should be able to tell you where to go.
Good luck to you! Once you get that, the rest is all easy!

Re: Providing disposition records
I was arrested some seventeen years ago for DWI and it never went to court. (Never really knew why, but figure I got off lucky.)
I was applying for a job with the state and they wanted "disposition" of any charges against me. I went to the county courthouse, to the county attorney's office and inquired about it. (I was scared to death that I was going to dig up something that I would prefer remain lost.) They said they had no record of any charges against me. So I asked if I could have a letter stating just that, on a courthouse letterhead.
They gave me what I asked for with no fuss. I thanked them and off I went.

Re: Providing disposition records
I think I just paid a fine for the DWI, and the criminal mischief charges were dropped. I'll head out to find that information as soon as I can! Thanks for the help everyone.
