Most states won't allow taking anything more than small game with .223. Texas is one of the exceptions. Hogs are tough, and a poor shot can easily only wound an animal and allow it to escape. Proper shot placement is important. I've got plans for hunting hog with my AR (once my build is finished), but I am taking care to develop heavier-hitting loads using the Speer 70 grain semi-spitzer rounds to make my shots more capable of a clean kill.dgindrup wrote:Im glad to see people are putting down hogs with a .223. All ive heard from the research ive been doing is the .223 is too light of a load to take down a hog
You might want to pose that question on the Texas Hunting Forum.age_ranger wrote:Is there anywhere to go pig hunting north of McKinney that is open to the public and legal to hunt?
Two of my friends and myself want to go pig hunting this November but we're having difficulty finding a place to hunt. The closest I could come to it is a $450 "pig hunt" on private property where the guy probably has a pig problem but is simply taking advantage of people who have no place to hunt. Growing up I've hunted rabbits, squirrel, quail, dove and deer but never hunted pigs. It'd be great to get a small pig and roast it all for Christmas or Thanksgiving!!
Any ideas?
No way...the little ones are the only ones worth eating. Heck, if I could time it, I'd get one that's 4 hours old! Yummy!Houpilot2001 wrote:I know pigs are a nuisance but ****. Should've left "Babe" for next year.
