Ok ... I'll throw in a few cents worth. When arguments about some issue hinge on 'sensitivities' (even though they are legitimate) it will always end being lose-lose. No matter what is decided both sides will feel cheated in some way.

In America we live under a constitution and a body of law. In my view, building a church, mosque, or synagogue or whatever should be based on the rule of law not on peoples feelings. I am proud to live in a country where the rule of law (mostly) trumps. This is why we are able to carry ... because it's the law. Can you imagine what our gun laws would be if they were based on 'sensitivities' rather than our US Constitution.

If it is legal to build a mosque near 'ground zero' so be it whether we like it or not.

The free exercise of religion is an essential liberty outlined in the Constitution. Prohibiting the creation of a house of worship is tantamount to dening the practice of religion at that location. The building of places of worship on foriegn land should have no bearing on what takes place on US soil, we must uphold OUR constitution, not Isreal's, not Palestine's, nor any other nation's.

Can you imagine what our gun laws would be if they were based on 'sensitivities' rather than our US Constitution.

I imagine you would need a license to carry a gun in public.

I imagine that there would be restrictions on gun store and shooting range locations that don't apply to churches.

I imagine people would need special permission to build or own certain arms.

I imagine there would be background checks before someone was allowed to buy a bible... I mean... a handgun.

I imagine the government would prohibit guns in schools and bars and sporting events.

I imagine businesses would be allowed to prohibit concealed handguns but not concealed religious symbols.

I imagine the feds would have a special excise tax on guns and ammunition.

I imagine the feds would require records to be kept on gun sales.

I imagine there would be a lot of other unconstitutional infringements on the right to own and carry weapons.
