Post by T.O.M. »

I just recived about 8,000 rounds of 30 carb LC head stamped brass cases and in it I found a steel casein it. I knew about 45 ACP steel cases, has any one ever seen a 30 carb one before ?

I have never seen Lake City aresenal 30 carbine steel. It may have been a trial or small batch run of steel for the cases. I would hang on to that as it might be a collector's item. :thumbs2:

Evansville Ammunition Plant, operated by Chrysler Corp, made the steel case .45 and they also made .30 carbine steel cased ammo. I have a book put out after the war by Chrysler and there's a photo in there of an inspection line and the caption reads "Inspecting the .30 caliber steel cartridge case after coming from its anti-corrosion bath."

Chrysler received a developmental contact to convert manufacture from brass cases to steel by May 1943.
